Ferdinand Dosono of Kauai Kim Chee is ready for the Fourth of July (hell be one of the vendors at the Kauai Hospice Concert in the Sky Tricia Yamashita was cruising the Kauai Community Market, too) as he fired up the grill with some spicy pork at Kauai Community College Saturday. Ferdinand was stocking up for the big day by stopping by the Dela Penas car Friday at the Sunshine Market at Vidinha Stadium before working the Kauai Community Market and getting a double dose of hydration from grandkids Lili and Kamalei Contrades.

Kai Kahele (he’s a candidate for Congress in the next election!) had his family visiting from the Big Island, and his daughters ‘Iolana and Namaka discovered Florence Toyofuku and her sidewalk chalk gallery next to the Lanipo Farms table. Sandi Kato-Klutke was getting a lei made for a graduation party, and Al Sugano had a new shipment of those colorful orchids.
Kudos to Denny Anderson and Mary Lardizabal and the Aloha Council of the Boy Scouts of America (Denny has the First Space Jam Kauai — they’ll be working for the Duck Tape award, among other events — starting Friday for Scouts who missed out on summer camp at Camp Alan Faye in Kokee State Park) for helping Melissa McFerrin-Warrack with the Backyard Games at Kukui Grove Center. Angela Hoover of the Girl Scouts had her senior girls from Troop 775 washing cars as a fun-(d)-raiser (what a novel way to celebrate the end of the week’s rains) for an Oahu trip to the Teen Skills Challenge camp.
Kudos, too, to bowling coach Todd Ozaki for coordinating the second Vance Akiyama doubles bowling tournament (was nice to see Darryl Izumo again!) as a fundraiser for the Kauai Junior Blazing Bombers bowlers who were busy manning the auction table laden with prizes.
