Charlmaine Bulosan (Miss Kauai Filipina scholarship pageant coming up Saturday, June 15!) was one busy lady, starting with the 30th Taste of Hawaii presented by the Rotary Club of Kapaa (great job, Rotarians!) at Smiths Tropical Paradise in Wailua (great job with the garden decorations, Wendee Van Geisen, and Pat Gegen and John Harder of Zero Waste Kauai had a real workout!).

From there, it was a photo session with the Miss Kauai Filipina contestants (it’s 7 p.m. at the Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall) working through their mock interviews with Liz Kawamura, Ruth Melchor and Rhoda Libre, and then, tooling off to the Kauai Filipino Women’s Club (Terno Ball coming up in September) function, where this year’s scholarship recipients were being honored … wow! What a long, busy day!
OK, time to check out the World Oceans Day activities going on at Kukui Grove Center, where Rose Ann Jones and Abigail Boroughs did a bang-up job coordinating “the first edition of a new, annual Kauai Society of Artists Show” — Washed Up — co-sponsored by the Surfrider Foundation of Kauai that opens with an artists’ reception today.
Don’t forget the King Kamehameha Day Celebration with the Kauai Museum and the Royal Order of Kamehameha (Chucky Boy Chock is a member with Warren Perry and Kimo Perry) that takes place at 10 a.m. Saturday at the luau grounds at the Kauai Marriott Resort &Beach Club, featuring Wallis and Shana Punua’s halau.
