HILO, Hawaii — A Hawaii man has filed a lawsuit against a hospital over the loss of a whale tooth necklace that has been in his family for generations.
The Hawaii Tribune-Herald reported Sunday that attorneys representing Alejandro Tejada filed the lawsuit May 9 against Hilo Medical Center.
The lawsuit seeks unspecified monetary damages.
The lawsuit says Tejada suffered a stroke in September 2018 and was treated at the Big Island hospital, where a staff member preparing him for a CT scan removed and did not return the necklace made of a sperm whale tooth and valued at more than $100,000.
A risk management officer denied Tejada’s claim for the necklace in April, saying it was returned to his wife.
The hospital says it cannot comment due to patient privacy law.

Hospitals are known for stealing items from patients. They normally hide behind the curtain of denial blaming the victim for “medical reasons” like forgetting events due to medicine after effects or they came into the hospital in “delusional conditions”, but in reality these crooks steal for a living at the very expense of the patients they are sworn to assist.
I’ve lost $130 in cash from Tripler Army Hospital’s emergency department that only its security and hospital personnel have access to the room I was assigned. Again they claim I affected by the medication they administered and that no money was present in my wallet, which is not true because I counted it before getting there. In fact the hospital nurse said to leave it there while I got a MRI done and returned it was gone.
Sue these crooks and take them to the cleaners, better yet invoke your ancient Hawaiian curse since that whale bone necklace is probably linked to Hawaiian royalty which is also linked to the Kahuna class of priest who protected the nobles.
