Fausto Sambajon Torres
Fausto Sambajon Torres, 85 of Kapaa, passed away peacefully at home on April 5, 2019. He was born in Poblacion West, Nagbukel, Ilocos Sur, Philippines, on July 22, 1933, and retired from the hotel and tourism industry as a houseman.
He was preceded in death by parents Guillermo and Crispina Torres and infant son Francis Torres.
He is survived by wife Regina Cabico Torres, children Sonny Torres, Juanita (Richard) Agaran, Boni (Cathy) Torres, Clarence (Melba) Torres, Anabel (Rhod) Giron of Lanai City and Robert Torres, siblings Maria Torres and Remy Luzano of the Phillipines, 15 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 1, at St. Catherine Church, with visitation from 8 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Catherine Church Cemetery.

Patricia Ann Carvalho Kuali‘i
Patricia Ann Carvalho Kuali‘i, 79, of Puhi, passed away at home on April 30, 2019. She was born in Lihue on March 17, 1940, and retired as a cafeteria manager with Ae Kamalii and Immaculate Conception School.
She was preceded in death by parents Ernest and Clarissa Carvalho and sister Audrey Mae Carvalho.
She is survived by husband Wilfred Kualii III, children Sandra Mae Hokulani (Alan Yamashiro) Kuali‘i, Debra Jean Ualani (Ron Silva) Kuali‘i, KipuKai Leslie Patrick (Joe Carrillo) Kuali‘i, Alan Brian Pono (Tiana Pangan) Kuali‘i, Kurt Kalani (Michele) Kuali‘i and Kris Kawika (Kaina) Lovell Kuali‘i, grandchildren Penny Tomacder, Jackie “Malia” Tomacder, Tanya Tomacder, Brian Kuali‘i, Brysen Kuali‘i, Leann Nobriga, Lance Nobriga, Laci Nobriga, Kori Ann Kuali‘i, Megan Kuali‘i, Elijah Kuali‘i, Ariannah Kuali‘i and Lukela Kuali‘i, several great-grandchildren, brothers James (JoAnn) Carvalho Sr. and Robert Carvalho, sisters Sharon (Michael) Blackstad, Val McGurn, Marcia Jimenez and Betty (Sonny) Ibaan, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, May 23, at Immaculate Conception Church, with viewing from 8 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.
Janet Mitsuko Fujii
Janet Mitsuko Fujii of Lihue passed away at Garden Isle Healthcare on April 16, 2019, at the age of 84. She was born in Lihue on June 23, 1934, and retired as a clerk typist with the state Department of Transportation Highways Division.
She was preceded in death by husband Tonaichi Fujii, brothers Ted Murata, Kiyoshi Murata and Tommy Murata, and sister Josephine Barlow.
She is survived by daughters Lynn (Wayne Toyama) Fujii and Gail (Michael) Oride, brothers Isamo “Mamo” Murata and Robert “Bobby” (Sachiko) Murata, grandchildren Cory Oride and Kelli Oride, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Lihue Hongwanji Mission on Wednesday, May 15, with visitation at 1 p.m. and services to follow.

Juan P. Lorenzo Jr.
On Monday, April 15, 2019, our beloved “Papa” Juan P. Lorenzo Jr. passed away at home at the age of 68. He was born on Nov. 3, 1950 in Lihue, and was a retiree of both Kauai Electric and Kauai Island Utility Cooperative and the Hawaii Air National Guard.
In his younger years, he was an amateur radio enthusiast and under the call sign KH6JJC, chased contacts with other “hams” around the world. Later, he exchanged his radio for a camera, and QSL cards were replaced with photographs. He loved taking pictures of sunsets and his family. He will be remembered for his warm smile and gentle nature.
He was preceded in death by father Juan P. Lorenzo Sr. and mother Tranquilina “Helen” Lorenzo.
He is survived by wife Gail, children Celeste (Aleks Andrews) Lorenzo, Bradley Nelmida and Meagan (Arthur) Rice, five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, brother Melvin (Cindee) Lorenzo, sister Cynthia (Dan) Albosta, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 18, at Garden Island Mortuary, with viewing from 9 a.m. and services at 11 a.m.

Betsy Tsuyuko Yamane
Betsy Tsuyuko Yamane passed away at Wilcox Medical Center on March 29, 2019, at the age of 91. She was born on June 1, 1927. She was a housewife.
She was preceded in death by father Michihiro Fukuda, mother Kikuyo Fukuda, and daughter Amy Yamane.
She is survived by husband Noboru Yamane, sons Lorin Yamane of Kapaa and Michael (Valerie) Yamane of Kapaa, grandchildren Derek Yamane and Shawn Yamane, brothers Kikuo Fukuda of Honolulu and Allen (Janet) Fukuda of Maui, sisters Mikiko Muraoka of Kalaheo and Mitsuke Ikeda of Hilo, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Private services were held.

Virginia Madayag Cabillan
Virginia Madayag Cabillan, 84, of Lawai, passed away on April 12, 2019, at Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital. She was born in San Antonio, Zambales, Philippines, on Jan. 28, 1935, and retired from Wilcox Memorial Hospital as a housekeeper.
She was preceded in death by parents Julian and Barbara Alegado, twin sister Ines Cabales, and brothers Daniel Alegado and Santos Alegado.
She is survived by sons Rolando (Leah Lei) Agustin and Froilan (Ashley) Madayag, grandchildren Hunter Madayag, Taylor Agustin, Scarlett Madayag and Phoenix Madayag, sisters Adoracion Almero, Bobbi Hernandez and Maring Torres, brother Simo Alegado, stepdaughters Solena (Ed) Guerrero and Ramona (Bill) Reilly, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 18, at Immaculate Conception Church, with viewing from 8:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Immaculate Conception Church Cemetery. The family suggests casual attire.
