Yuritoshi ‘Boogie’ Kusaka
Yuritoshi “Boogie” Kusaka passed away at Garden Island Health Care on March 13, 2019, at the age of 87. He was born on Jan. 13, 1932. He retired from the Carpenters Union. He also served in the U.S. Marines, and was a corporal in the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by son Dwayne Kusaka, parents Robert and Masaji Kusaka, brother-in-law Akira Teramoto, nephew Lester Teramoto, and brother-in-law Gerry Kikuta.
He is survived by wife Fely Kusaka, son Royden (Weena) Kusaka of Lihue, daughter Norine (Val) Kusaka of Lihue, several grandchildren, brothers Charles (Mayor Maryanne) Kusaka of Wailua and Henry (Lynn) Kusaka of Lihue, sisters Helen Teramoto of Honolulu, Kay (Lamont) Shadowens of California, Chieko (Harry) Ehara of California and Dorthy Kikuta of Honolulu, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. The family suggests casual attire.
Garden Island Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.
Gabriel Morreira Cataluna
Gabriel Morreira Cataluna, 106, of Koloa, passed away at his home on April 27, 2019. Born on April 11, 1913, he retired from the County of Kauai and was the oldest WWII veteran on Kauai.
He was preceded in death by father Antonio and mother Lucia Cataluna.
He is survived by wife Leonora Cataluna, children Gabriel M. Cataluna, Anthony Cataluna, Aileen (Cataluna) Takenaka, Kathleen “Tita” (Cataluna) Murguia and Alberta (Almeida) Paris, brothers Domingo, Frank and John Cataluna, sisters Juana Bukoski, Rita Jacintho and Augustina Cataluna, 17 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 20 great-great-grandchildren.
Friend may visit with the family at Poipu Beach Park on Saturday, May 18, at noon. The family suggests casual attire and welcomes flowers.
A private inurnment service will be held.

Tom Hoohie Takahashi
Tom Hoohie Takahashi passed away on April 23, 2019 at the age of 90.
He was born on June 3, 1928, and served in the National Guard.
He was preceded in death by wife Edwina Puanani Takahashi, father Nizo Takahashi, and mother Sarah Kaopio.
He is survived by daughters Kealoha Takahashi and Reiko (Jerrie) Louis, and grandchildren Justin Riley (Destiny Lynn) Louis and Jared Jaydon Louis.
A celebration of life will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Kekaha on Saturday, May 11, with visitation from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and services to follow at 1 p.m.
Burial will follow at the Kekaha Hawaiian Cemetery.
The family suggests aloha attire.

Betsy Yamane
Betsy Yamane passed away at Wilcox Medical Center on March 29, 2019, at the age of 91. She was born on June 1, 1927. She was a housewife.
She was preceded in death by father Michiro Fukuda, mother Kikuyo Fukuda, and daughter Amy Yamane.
She is survived by husband Noboru Yamane, sons Lorin Yamane of Kapaa and Michael (Valerie) Yamane of Kapaa, grandchildren Derek Yamane and Shawn Yamane, brothers Kikuo Fukudo of Honolulu and Allen (Janet) Fukuda of Maui, sisters Mikiko Muraoka of Kalaheo and Mitsuke Ikeda of Hilo, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Private services were held.
Arrangements were provided by Garden Island Mortuary.
‘A’ Kendall Burwinkle
“A” Kendall Burwinkle passed away in Waimea on Feb. 18, 2019. Born on Dec. 31, 1938, in Brooklyn, New York, he served in the U.S. Navy for five years during the Vietnam war.
On behalf of a grateful nation, the Kauai Office of Veterans Services will honor Burwinkle’s service at 9:55 a.m. Friday, May 10, at Kauai Veterans Cemetery. He will be buried with U.S. Navy military funeral honors.
The public is welcome to attend.
Burwinkle has no known family members or survivors.
