Simeon Agustin Patricio
Simeon Agustin Patricio, of Kalaheo, passed away on March 18, 2019, at his home at the age of 94. He was born on Feb. 15, 1925, in Laoag, Ilocos Norte, Philippines. He was a retired truck driver for McBryde Sugar Plantation.
He is survived by his wife Martina Visitacion Patricio; daughters, Zosima (Ruben) Bisarra of Santa Clarita, California, Jennifer Patricio of Honolulu; grandson Ric Bisarra of Santa Clarita, California; granddaughters, Roxette Bisarra of Long Beach, California, Alanis Bisarra of Santa Clarita, California; brother Joel (Imnas) Patricio of the Philippines; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents Aparicio and Dorotea Patricio; brothers, Rodolfo Patricio, Demision Patricio; sisters, Segunda Patricio and Angeles Patricio
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, May 11, 2019, at Holy Cross Church in Kalaheo. Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m. with Mass celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial to follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens. Casual attire is suggested.
Francis ‘Frank’ Patrick Green
Francis “Frank” Patrick Green, 79, of Kapaa, passed away at home on April 7, 2019. He was born in New York on Feb. 11, 1940, and retired as a Plumbing Union Worker.
Francis is survived by his wife Mennie Green of Kapaa; daughters, Helen (Martin) Dempsey, Terryann (John) Quigley, Kelly (Roger) Hirschkind all of Long Island, New York; son Frankie Green of Kapaa; 7 grandchildren, Kaylin, Frankie, Johnny, Ryan, Mikey, Matty, Nikki; sister Helen (John) Kropp of South Carolina.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2019, at St. Catherine Church with visitation from 8:30 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m.

Federico Acoba
Federico Acoba, Jr., of Kekaha, passed away on April 21, 2019, at his home in keisha, Kauai. Born on March 9, 1937 in Waimea, Kauai he was a truck and tractor mechanic.
He is preceded in death by his wife Florentina Acoba; parents Federico Sr. and Eugenia Acoba.
He is survived by his sons, Edmund (Evelyn) Acoba, Eric (Juliet) Acoba; daughters, Darleen (Steven) Rivera, Diane (Norman Vea, Sr.) Acoba; grandchildren, Rilen (Shyenne) Bayot, Darrick (Sheryl) Bayot, Michael Acoba, Beau Acoba, Justin (Emily Dias) Acoba, Jessica Ann Acoba, Jonah Acoba, Urijah Acoba, Jason Saba, Tamara Thurstan, Ian Donaldson, Zane Donaldsin, Marjorie Donaldson, Norman Vea, Jr., Aaron Vea, Nikki (Cy) Corona, Steven Rivera, Stevenson Rivera; great grandchildren, Rysen-Duke Bayot, Riley Rei Bayot , Elijan-Daniel Bayot, Jaclah-Mari Bayot, Camden Acoba; brother Andre’s (Josephine) Acoba; brother in law Andre’s Yanos; numerous uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Geoffrey ‘Geoff’ Culverhouse
Geoffrey “Geoff” Culverhouse, long time manager for Ching Young Village Shopping Center in Hanalei passed away on March 28, 2019. He was born to Barbara and Kenneth Culverhouse in Bath, England on March 9, 1948. One brother, Antony predeceased him. Over the years he worked in several countries but after visiting Kauai in the 1980’s he made Kauai his home. He is survived by a niece, Michelle Culverhouse and her two children, Kealia and Antonia, who reside in England. He is also survived by Jennie Ching, his Kauai Hanai mom. Also survived by good friends Dominic Baretto, Alan Stone, Danielle Candelaria, Michael Ching and their families.
Memorial Service will be held at the Waioli Church (Green Church) in Hanalei on May 11, 2019. Visitation from 9 to 10 a.m. Services to start at 10:05 a.m. Burial to follow. He was a kind and gentle man who was always there to lend a hand. He will be sorely missed by all whose lives have been touched by him.

Fausto Sambajon Torres
Fausto Sambajon Torres, 85, of Kapaa, passed away peacefully at home on April 5, 2019. He was born in Poblacion West, Nagbukel, Ilocos Sur, Philippines on July 22, 1933, and retired from the hotel and tourism industry as a houseman.
He is preceded in death by his parents Guillermo and Crispina Torres; infant son Francis Torres.
Fausto is survived by his wife Regina Cabico Torres; children, Sonny Torres, Juanita (Richard) Agaran, Boni (Cathy) Torres, Clarence Melba Torres, Anabel (Rhod) Giron of Lanai City, Robert Torres; siblings, Maria Torres, Remy Luzano of the Phillipines; 15 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 1, 2019, at St. Catherine’s Church with visitation from 8 a.m. and mass celebration at 10 a.m. There will be a burial to follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery.

Virginia Madayag Cabillan, 84, of Lawai, passed away on April 12, 2019, at Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital. She was born in San Antonio, Zambales, Philippines on Jan. 28, 1935, and retired from Wilcox Memorial Hospital as a housekeeper.
Preceded in death by her parents Julian and Barbara Alegado; twin sister Ines Cabales; brothers, Daniel Alegado, Santos Alegado.
Virginia is survived by her sons, Rolando (Leah Lei) Agustin, Froilan (Ashley) Madayag; grandchildren, Hunter Madayag, Taylor Agustin, Scarlett Madayag, and Phoenix Madayag; sisters, Adoracion Almero, Bobbi Hernandez, Maring Torres; brother Simo Alegado; stepdaughters, Solena (Ed) Guerrero and Ramona (Bill) Reilly; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2019, at Immaculate Conception Church with viewing from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. and Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Immaculate Conception Church Cemetery. Family suggests casual attire.
Patricia Ann Carvalho Kualii
Patricia Ann Carvalho Kualii, 79, of Puhi, passed away at home on April 30, 2019. She was born in Lihue, on March 17, 1940, and retired as a cafeteria manager with Ae Kamalii and Immaculate Conception School.
Preceded in death by her parents Ernest and Clarissa Carvalho; sister Audrey Mae Carvalho.
Pat is survived by her husband Wilfred Kualii III; 6 children, Sandra Mae Hokulani (Alan Yamashiro) Kualii, Debra Jean Ualani (Ron Silva) Kualii, KipuKai Leslie Patrick (Joe Carrillo) Kualii, Alan Brian Pono (Tiana Pangan) Kualii, Kurt Kalani (Michele) Kualii, Kris Kawika (Kaina) Lovell Kualii; 13 grandchildren, Penny Tomacder, Jackie “Malia” Tomacder, Tanya Tomacder, Brian Kualii, Brysen Kualii, Leann Nobriga, Lance Nobriga, Laci Nobriga, Kori Ann Kualii, Megan Kualii, Elijah Kualii, Ariannah Kualii, Lukela Kualii; several great-grandchildren; brothers, James (JoAnn) Carvalho Sr., Robert Carvalho; sisters, Sharon (Michael) Blackstad, Val McGurn, Marcia Jimenez, Betty (Sonny) Ibaan; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jon Kalani Makanani
Jon Kalani Makanani, 70, passed away in Portland, Oregon, on Dec. 5, 2018. Jon was born on March 12, 1948, in Lihue, to John and Agnes Leimomi (Manini) Makanani; siblings, Cheryl (Lawrence) Jordan, Clinton Makanani, Randy Makanani who preceded him in death.
He is survived by his brother Gabriel (Phyllis) Makanani of Washington.
Services will be held at Koloa Missionary Church on Saturday, May 18, 2019. Visitation from 9 a.m.; services to follow. There will be a committal to follow at Hanapepe Veterans Cemetery.
Janet Hinayo Toyama Naumu
Janet Hinayo Toyama Naumu, of Lihue, passed away on March 17, 2019, at home. She was born on Nov. 13, 1927, at Kalaheo.
She is preceded in death by her husband Wallace Aukai Naumu and her son Dwayne Daye Naumu.
She is survived by her sons, Darryl (Caroline) Naumu, Glenn Naumu; daughter-in-law Ruth Naumu; grandchildren, Tiffany, Trisha, Garrett, Krystal Naumu; great-grandchildren, Brenden, Aleajah, and Taytra Naumu.
Memorial Services will be held on May 12, 2019, at the Kauai Veterans Center, in Lihue, at 3 p.m.

Ruth Patterson Simonson
Ruth “Lover” Patterson Simonson passed away at home in Los Alamitos, California, on Feb. 25, 2019. Born in Hanalei on April 30, 1928, she took shelter under a piano at Punahou School during the attack on Pearl Harbor. She taught school in Kapa’a and Honolulu before marrying and relocating to the mainland, where she was a homemaker and community volunteer.
She is survived by her husband Gene R. Simonson; daughters, Sigrid (Robert Manwaring) Simonson, Kirstin Simonson.
Family members will scatter her ashes in Hanalei Bay at a later date, as she requested.
Mary Toledo Vales
Mary Toledo Vales, passed away on April 29, 2019, at her home in Omao. She was born on Feb. 2, 1919, at home in Kalaheo.
She is preceded in death by her parents Pedro and Flora Toledo; husband John Vales Jr.; son Richard Vales; daughter May Jane (Raymond) Borrero; son-in-law Clem Hatch; granddaughter Mary Vales; great-granddaughter Angelina Hillare; sisters, Martha Rita, Victoria Androus; brothers, Philip and Marcelino Toledo, Martin (Emily) Toledo.
She is survived by daughter Dolores Hatch of Tulalip, WA; daughter-in-law Blanca Vales of Costa Mesa, CA; sister-in-law Eva Toledo of Lawai; brother Jon Cruz of Florida; 13 grand children, 30 great-grandchildren, 26 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held on May 10, 2019, at St. Raphael’s Church in Koloa. Visitation will be held from 9 to 9:45 a.m. with Mass at 10 a.m.
There will be a burial to follow at St. Raphael Cemetery in Koloa. Family requests casual attire.

Juan P. Lorenzo Jr.
On Monday, April 15, 2019, our beloved “Papa” Juan P. Lorenzo Jr. passed away at home at the age of 68. He was born on Nov. 3, 1950, in Lihue. Juan was a retiree of both Kauai Electric and Kauai Island Utility Cooperative and the Hawaii Air National Guard.
In his younger years, Juan was an amateur radio enthusiast and under the call sign KH6JJC, chased contacts with other “hams” around the world. Later, he exchanged his radio with a camera and QSL cards were replaced with photographs. He loved taking pictures of sunsets and his family. He will be remembered for his warm smile and gentle nature.
He was preceded in death by his father Juan P. Lorenzo Sr. and his mother, Tranquilina “Helen” Lorenzo.
Juan is survived by his wife Gail; children., Celeste (Aleks Andrews) Lorenzo, Bradley Nelmida, Meagan (Arthur) Rice; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; brother Melvin (Cindee) Lorenzo; sister Cynthia (Dan) Albosta; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 18, at Garden Island Mortuary with viewing from 9 a.m. followed by service at 11 a.m.
