HONOLULU — Kauai High School girls finished 16th place with 9.5 points to lead the Kauai Interscholastic Federation contingent at the Island Movers Hawaii High School Athletic Association state track and field championships that wrapped up Saturday evening at the Maui War Memorial Stadium.
All four of the KIF participating school finished on the leaderboard, including Island School who ended in 23rd place with seven points.
Jaden DeSouza topped all the KIF athletes’ performance at the state meet, finishing in third place during the 400 meter run (59.65), and sixth place in the 800 meter run (2:24.16).
Her performance was matched by Joshua Grave who finished third in the Boys 800 meter run, stopping the clocks in the finals at 2:01.65.
Waileia Edwards led the Kauai girls’ individual efforts, finishing tied for fourth in the high jump at a 4-11 leap. She also finished 11th in the long jump with a leap exceeding 16 feet by one-quarter inch.
First year track and field participant Kaleonahe Bukoski finished 19th in the long jump, 18th in the triple jump, and had no height recorded in the high jump.
Kauai’s Micah Carvalho also marked in two events — 22nd in the triple jump, and 34th in the long jump.
Makana Duncan led the way for the Waimea showing, finishing eighth in the 200 meter dash. Gheymee Perreira and Kawelo Huddy make marks in the field events.
Kapaa’s Samuel Mokuahi topped the Warriors’ showing, finishing fourth in the high jumpp on a leap of 6 feet, 1 inch.
