Get a jump on Mother’s Day and help out Sarah Tochiki and the Kauai All-Island Band on the same stop Saturday when Sarah and the band boosters put on the Mother’s Day craft fair (I’m sure they’ve got some ono baked goodies, too) at the Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School cafeteria from 8:30 a.m. (you still have an hour before the Kauai Community Market opens) until 12:30 p.m.
Nikki Hoelder of Colorado was visiting her sister Alicia at the Kunana Dairy tent, and not saying anything about the nice weather; Hannah Huang was busy packing beans (she said it’s going off, right now) that Laurie Ho said are really good because you can cook them up all at once, and they keep well so you can enjoy some later on.
Friday night comes alive at the Kauai Society of Artists gallery at the Kukui Grove Center (check out the new chandeliers and the display monitors in the food court area!) when at least six of Kauai’s lady authors — Laurel McGraw, Carol A. Peacock, Sj LeHoven, Bourgi von Trapp, Pamela Varma, and Sally Jo Manea — will be on hand with their books (yes, you can bring your own copies if you already have them) for signing and talk story from 5 p.m.
But today? It’s off to the Kauai Marriott Resort &Beach Club to check out the Kauai Museum Lei (May Day is Lei Day!) contest that opens from 11 a.m. (just in time to see if Chef Guy Higa has any of those bento)…maybe, we’ll run into some celebrities?
