NUKOLI‘I — Tish Charette of Washington and Peggy Burns of Boston said they didn’t have any plans set for Saturday, so took up the invitation of Hawaii Lodging &Tourism Association Kauai representative Morgan Lopez to check out the charity walk pancake buffet at the Kauai Beach Resort.
“We were at Ahukini where we met one of the leaders,” said Paula Laballee of Washington. “She told us about this, so we thought we’d come and enjoy some pancakes since we had no plans for today.”
The visitors were among the throngs of people who went through hundreds of plates of pancakes, scrambled eggs and bacon at the fundraiser for the Kauai Visitor Industry Charity Walk, which takes place Saturday, May 11, at the Vidinha Stadium soccer fields.
“I love doing this,” said Logan Ripley, sous chef at the Kauai Beach Resort. “We got several people contributing, and the hotel kicked in a few things to make this work. This is a nice way of giving back. We also do this for the spaghetti night. It’s hard work, but I love it because it’s giving back.”
Breakfast diners were treated to the endless buffet line and a live performance by Kalakalau.
“This is our first time at the buffet,” said Jane Shewchuk. “Our neighbor works for Enterprise Rent A Car and gave us tickets so we could enjoy the event. This is a lot of fun.”
Following breakfast, there were a lot of keiki activities, including a fish pond.
The Kauai Visitor Industry Charity Walk that has a goal of more than $400,000. Proceeds are shared among more than 60 nonprofit organizations on Kauai to enable them to do the work they provide for the community.
The Countdown to Charity Walk takes place Saturday, May 4, at Kukui Grove Center, with live entertainment and a silent auction.
