WAILUA — James Pratt fired an 82 (42-40) to lead the Island School Voyagers to an 11-stroke win over Kauai High School on Saturday at Wailua Golf Course to hand the Red Raiders their first boys’ team loss over six Kauai Interscholastic Federation matches. In the victory, the Voyagers got support from Niki Upson firing an 85 (42-43).
Carson Oyama (48-43) and Jayson Serrano (47-44) each finished with 91 to lead the Red Raiders. Braeden Yokoyama lent a 92 (47-45) in the effort that ended with Island School totaling 357 in team play over Kauai’s 368 strokes.
Waimea High School, with Nick Esposo leading the charge at 84 (41-43), finished with 374. Kapaa fielded a team effort with Kekoa Eisenhour finishing with the day’s low score at 80 (40-40) but failed to gain team points after one of its golfers was disqualified.
On the girls’ course, Kauai High School girls, led by Taryn Taguma finishing with a five-over 77 (38-39), topped an undefeated season with a team 247 over Island School’s girls who ended with a 405 led by Ema-Lani Ebesu finishing with a 121 (63-58).
Top individualist for the boys belonged to Island School’s Justice Snyder who finished at 104 (54-50), and Kauai High School’s Sabrina Murphy grabbed the girls’ top individualist spot with a 91 (48-43).
Of note, the Kauai Christian Academy girls pair of Sophia Marvel (81-80-161) and Jana Sheatz (110-71-181) upgraded from nine holes of play to finish the 18 holes.
With the KIF season enjoying its final round of play, the golfers next tee off starting Friday to qualify for the state tournaments over two rounds. The first groupings tee off from 11:30 a.m. Friday, and the final round will start with 9 a.m. tee times Saturday at the Wailua Golf Course.
