LIHUE — Waimea High School’s varsity softball team defeated Kauai High School in both games of Saturday’s softball doubleheader at Isenberg Park.
Waimea won the first game, 16-5, and then won the second game to complete the sweep, 16-4.
In the first game, Waimea totaled 16 runs on 13 hits. Kiana Kaiwi was 3 for 4 batting with three RBIs and scored four runs.
Menehune pitcher Shandalyn Kuhlmann got the win.
Kauai got five runs on seven hits. Justice Funamura-Sasil and Cody Lagazo each were 2 for 3 batting.
Red Raiders pitcher Hayley Ramos took the loss.
In the second game, the Menehune got 16 runs on 17 hits. Aliyah Nordmeier-Kanahele was 4 for 4 and got two RBIs. Leiko Yamauchi was 3 for 4 to get two RBIs and scored three runs.
Nikayla Oyamot-Taniguchi got the win in the second game Saturday.
Kauai got its four runs on eight hits. Funamura-Sasil was 2 for 3 and got one RBI and one run. Kaya Camara was 2 for 2 and posted one RBI.
Lagazo took the loss for Kauai in the second game.
Kauai will play at Kapaa High School at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Waimea will host Kapaa for a doubleheader Saturday at Waimea Canyon Park. The first game is scheduled for 10 a.m.
