Avery Ortal of Boy Scout Troop 334, sponsored by Holy Cross Church, took advantage of the weekly Kauai Culinary Market (the Soup Girls they said the Soup Lady is retired had corn chowder, Ron Wood) to sell his Makahiki tickets (Boy Scout Simon Oyama sold all his during the Flavors of Kukuiula benefiting the Charity Walk at The Shops at Kukuiula!) for the event that takes place Saturday next to the Garden Fair at Kauai Community College.

Ada Koene is already figuring out when she’s going to the Garden Island Orchid Society’s Spring Fantasy orchid show and plant sale (Al Sugano said he’ll have some of those big oncidiums that have been popular at the Kauai Community Market, but go early because they sell out) that opens at noon at the Hanapepe United Church of Christ social hall (it overflows into Friday Night Art Walk in Hanapepe, closing at 7 p.m.) and, on Saturday, the Friends of the Hanapepe Public Library will host a craft fair to overlap with the show’s 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. run.
Dennis Olivas of Pleasant Hills, California, was doing the chef’s demo (how many of you know that vanilla comes from an orchid?) as a preview for the orchid show where he will be doing a ask-the-doctor segment and other plant demonstrations.
And, over at Vidinha Stadium, it’s the Mayor’s Age Group Track Meet both Saturday and Sunday!
