Food pantry closing doors
Food pantry closing doors
Thank you very much for the years of support you have given the food pantry (at St. Catherine Church in Kapaa). It is with a heavy heart that I must convey to you that the pantry is closing completely April 1.
You may have heard that two armed men came onto the school campus in February and tried to abduct a lady and child. They were unsuccessful and apprehended the same day. It may have been a domestic situation and was not related in any way to the pantry.
The school, police and church have recommended that the pantry not operate while students are on campus. We agree that children’s safety is a top priority, so we closed the pantry for March to reassess our options.
Our options were to operate after school hours like 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday or find another location. Nobody is willing to take a leadership role to operate later, on Saturday, or find a new location. There is no budget to rent another space and pay utilities.
Thank you for the nine years of supporting this ministry. May you be blessed for your thoughtful sharing with the less fortunate of our community.
