HONOLULU — The state has named the new administrator for the state Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Aquatic Resources, settling on the man who has been holding down the position since June 2018.
The DLNR announced Monday they’ve chosen DAR’s acting administrator Brad Neilson for the permanent position, as he’s “proven his leadership ability and has quickly gained the confidence of his staff and DLNR leadership.”
That’s according to state Board of Land and Natural Resources Chair Suzanne Case, who said in a statement that Neilson will be able to help accomplish the goals of Gov. David Ige’s 30×30 initiative — meaning the goal to be effectively managing 30 percent of Hawaii’s nearshore waters by 2030.
“Brian is the perfect choice to lead our protection and management efforts to preserve Hawaii’s unique and irreplaceable aquatic resources,” Case said.
Neilson said he was humbled by the opportunity and appreciated the responsibility that comes with this position.
“I’m confident in taking on such a role, in knowing that I will be working with a talented and passionate DAR team,” Neilson said.
