HONOLULU — A U.S. judge is postponing a trial on corruption-related charges against a former Honolulu prosecutor and her retired police chief husband because she says she has cancer.
Katherine Kealoha filed a motion last week asking to postpone the trial because she has cancer. Her doctor talked to a judge during a closed court hearing Monday. After hearing from the doctor, U.S. District Judge J. Michael Seabright granted her motion to postpone.
Katherine Kealoha and her husband Louis Kealoha were scheduled to go to trial later this month on charges that they used police resources to frame her uncle in an attempt to discredit him in a family, financial dispute. Current and former officers are their co-defendants.
Jury selection is now scheduled to begin May 15.
