International Swimming Hall of Famer Karlyn Pipes, with arms spread, is surrounded by Mokihana Aquatics swimmers during the weekend clinic she led at the Kauai High School pool. Pipes, a Kona resident who holds numerous world and national swimming records, also did a clinic for the Waimea High School swim team. She was inducted into the Hawaii Swimming Hall of Fame in the same class as Mokihana Aquatics Coach Orlando Anaya.

Congratulations to Lolita and William Villanueva on the honor of being chosen the Valentines Day royalty at Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital (the Kilauea Seniors had an entertainment gig there earlier in the week). Kudos to Josie Pablo (she had to do duty at Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital), Lalaine Rabaino and Juvie Bercasio (her cousins Mila Peralta-Malare of Fresno, and Madeline Peralta-Tagavilla of San Jose were helping, too) on pulling everything together!

Mahalo to Hawaii Health Systems Corporation Kauai Region Chef Kingsley Simeona (his dad makes some kick-butt boiled peanuts!), who rolled out a bunch of special Valentine’s Day-theme goodies that tasted as good as they looked.
Jock Goodman (he was back vending at the Kukui Grove Center Thursday market) took advantage of the high east-breaking swell to get some nice Kealia Beach and Ammonia’s shots before the waters turned brown and the winds broke everything down to soup.
He was joined by Jenn Ortal, who combined her malasada on a stick with a rose for a cute Valentine’s Day offering, and wasn’t Thursday a nice day for a hot bowl of saimin?
