LIHUE — Young Brothers LLC announced Wednesday it has received approval from the state Public Utilities Commission for its first significant rate increase in six years.
The 4.3-percent rate increase is critical to allow Young Brothers to reinvest in its business and upgrade equipment to continue providing essential inter-island cargo transport services, according to a press release.
Young Brothers makes over 1,250 sailings each year between the Hawaiian Islands. Tugs, barges, containers, lifts, generators and other equipment experience significant wear and tear due to usage and from the highly corrosive saltwater, the company said.
Young Brothers is the only water carrier to serve all islands.
yes the shippers and airlines can control what we eat, wear and drink…they literally could shut this place down if they wanted;
RK
Young Brothers also delivers fireworks. The kind that goes 350 ft. in the air. They hold everything in this container. That is for the pyro-technic guys to deliver it to the site. 4th of July or New years’s eve fireworks shows.
Raising prices dramatically may be one of the few options left to curtail more people from moving to our rapidly overly developing island. I also support the Ocasio-Cortez green plan to replace air travel with eco friendly rail although its not clear if the solar rail will be on a bridge or along the sea floor? One thing is for certain like raising auto MPG standards if we don’t restrict air travel first there will be no incentive to develop the new technology.
I guess since the sons cannot import coke through containers and throw it over the fence, they have to raise fees.
The back story is well known and the rackets that the sons of YoungBrothers got over is criminal and those who protected them )judicial employees) are a part of a criminal ring.
This ring is tied to the toys on wheels meth chronic bikers on kauai.
Who would give toys or buy their laulau?
Nuts Kauai nuts aren’t only macadamia.
Another drug front business bites the dust.
Will Young Bros. improve their attrocious service at the docks, too? Fifteen ppl in line in the a.m.’s with no one at the desk to help? You can wait 45 mins. just to pick up 3 boxes, meanwhile no one comes down from the offices to help. Strangest, most convoluted pick-up hours in the business. And this is not a recent problem. Same old “only game in town” dynamic (…Oh wait, “dynamic” implies energy…..).
