Happy birthday, Michael Carle, who had a photo of himself published in the Kauai Times (how many of you remember that newspaper?) 24 years ago when he was 1 year old, said his mother Monica Carle.

More fun antics found their way to a Saturday marred with scheduling chaos due to the traffic snarl resulting from an auto accident near Halfway Bridge (Knudsen Gap). Greg Askew of Ono Pops was stuck in the mess for hours, and Ursa Swift of Midnight Bear Bakery made it to the Kauai Community Market late, but made up for it when customers who are normally greeted by a sold-out situation were privied to her selection of breads and other baked goodies.
Kudos to Josh Fukino, Pua Rossi-Fukino (she said 30 Kamehameha School keiki had to cancel out due to the traffic) and Mark Rossi on pulling together a successful Ku‘i at the County, where even Chad Schimmelfennig did not escape the traffic.
Allen Kapali was glad he read about the event because he always wanted to learn ku‘i (ever hear the popping that takes place when the starch is released from the kalo? It’s even better than popping those plastic packing sheets), and Albert Genovia could not resist breaking out his music.
The event was such a success, Josh said they plan on bringing that flavor to the Kealia Farms market, starting today from 6 to 8 p.m., where they will have kava and other cultural practices taking place with musicians providing old-style (i.e., Gabby Pahinui-era) music.
