LIHUE — The final Bikes on Rice this year is set for 4:45 p.m. Tuesday starting at the Lihue Civic Center.
The safe, slow-paced ride through surrounding neighborhoods is designed for all ages and abilities. Everyone is welcome.
It’s expected to cover about six miles.
The monthly bike rides have been held since February as a way to encourage sharing of the road between motorists and cyclists, and raise awareness of cyclists so drivers aren’t surprised to see them.
“The more exposure to people on bikes, drivers will expect to see bicycles more,” event chair Jim Benkert said in a previous interview with TGI.
Bikes on Rice is relaxed, slow and fun, a chance for people to get to know each other, to get some exercise and perhaps see some new part of Lihue.
“We want people being comfortable riding through town,” Benkert said.
