Elizabeth (Liz) Proctor passed away on Oct. 28, 2018, at her home in Lawai. She was 66 years old. She was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado, on Dec. 18, 1951.
She worked as a hair dresser for 40 years and loved to make people beautiful. She was a hairdresser in the salon at Liberty House, Ala Moana and Kukui Grove before opening her own salon, “Island Waves…A Hair Salon” in Kapaa town.
She trained under Paul Mitchell and Vidal Sassoon and became a regional color educator for Wella. She was always working to become better at her craft and mentored several young ladies who wanted to learn her trade. She brought her soon-to-be-husband Terry to Kauai in 1984.
They returned in 1986 and were married at Coco Palms Resort and they permanently relocated to Kauai, where she took great pleasure in enjoying the sun, sand and sea.
She was preceded in death by parents Joe and Margy Esch of Colorado Springs.
She is survived by her loving husband and soul mate Terry Proctor and their golden retriever Mana.
She had a contagious personality and loved to laugh. Many friends say that she would “light up the room” when she entered. She loved life and people and never had anything bad to say about anyone. She could often be very stubborn but was always very loving and giving, and ready to help out her friends or neighbors. One of her biggest passions was caring for animals. She always had a pet cat or dog or both, and she frequently contributed to charities that helped endangered species.
She was a fun-loving person with a spontaneous sense of adventure. She was a free spirit who touched many lives in a positive way. She will be sorely missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing her.
