WAIPOULI — Hawaii Pacific University baseball head coach Dallas Correa and his staff will host a meet-and-greet Nov. 16 at the Courtyard Marriott Kauai.
Tickets are $30.
“It’s basically going to be an opportunity for everyone on Kauai to meet our coaching staff and our new (athletic director) Sam Moku,” Correa said. “More so, it’s a chance for me to go to Kauai and let everybody know of all of the different things that we’re trying to do at HPU for the baseball program.”
Correa, a native of Hanapepe, said the objective of the meet-and-greet is to fundraise for the HPU baseball program.
The monetary goal is $10,000.
“This goes directly to anything we could possibly use for our student-athletes first and foremost,” Correa said. “To feed them on the road, if we need extra equipment or gear, that would go directly toward them. Even helping assistant coaches on the recruiting trail, along those lines, we have an opportunity to go out there and get the best players we can for our program.
“Another thing we’re going to be starting is a local scholarship fund. What this scholarship fund is, we’re creating a separate fund from our fundraising account that we have. We’re going to use that to give scholarships and athletic aid to local players around Hawaii. … to have them stay home and play for us.”
There will be pupus, cocktails and a silent auction. Cocktails will be sold separately.
Hawaii Pacific University is a Division II school that plays in the PacWest Conference. Correa was previously an assistant coach at HPU and was promoted to head coach in August.
