PRINCEVILLE — Blake Elliott of McNeese State found 10 birdies in the calm, no-wind rain at the Makai Golf Club at Princeville to take the lead during the second round of the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational golf tournament.
“They’re really sticking it out there,” said volunteer Don Cunningham. “There is rain, but no wind so the golfers are coming up with good scores.”
Elliott carded a nine-under 63 (31-32) to take the lead with a two-day 131, followed by Joshua McCarthy of Pepperdine in second place at 133 after carding a five-under 67 (33-34).
McCarthy led Pepperdine to a second round 284, preserving its lead at 557 after two rounds. Missouri, led by Rory Franssen carding a four-under 68 (34-34), follows at 561 after three of its golfers scored in the 60s, and two were under-par.
Host University of Hawaii fired a second round three-under 285 to move up three spots to No. 17 after all five Rainbow Warrior golfers marked even par following Justin Arcano ending with a three-under 69 (34-35) after posting an eagle and four birdies.
Arcano moves into a tie for 23rd at two-under 142. Justin Ngan, Nick Nelson, AJ Teraoka, and Cameron Kaneko all finished even par.
Kauai native Bryden Salvador, competing as individualist, finished his second round at 86, slipping to 111th overall.
The tournament concludes today with an 8 a.m. shotgun start at the Makai Golf Club at Princeville.
