I want to respond to Jed Somit’s editorial of Oct. 9. He and many others have switched gears to now accuse Justice Bret Kavanaugh of improper conduct during his confirmation hearings. They weren’t able to derail his appointment to the Supreme Court by prior tactics, so, “let’s try something else!”
I applaud Justice Kavanaugh’s conduct when responding to such a farce that never did pass the smell test. Let me pose a different scenario.
Suppose you are a well-respected bank manager who has a reputation for his/her conduct with employees and customers. Everyone comments on how nice of a person you are.
Now, you are home with your family and someone enters your home, threatens you and your family and creates a very hostile environment in your home. Will you, as the polite bank manager, react to the intruder with the same demeanor as with the people at your bank? Of course not. You and your family are threatened, your life is in jeopardy, your family is being subjected to unjust attacks. You are going to fight with all you have to rid your family and yourself of this menace.
I truly believe that is exactly what Justice Kavanaugh did. He called out those who would do him and his family great harm with unfounded accusations. Well done, Justice Kavanaugh.

Really? You create an analogy between testifying on events described by one widely recognized as a credible witness (even by the current ‘resident in the White House) with home invasion? Do you have even a gist of an an idea how much terror is involved with a home invasion? Did FOX News even report to you that Justice Kavanaugh himself had serious regrets over his partisan tirade? Is this an elaborate joke that needs explanation or was it written while working, like Kavanaugh, on your first case………of Budweiser?

Let’s paint a more realistic scenario:
Your daughter finds herself pregnant after a one night fling with a man who turns out to be a creep. After the SCOTUS overturns Roe vs Wade, due to the conservative nature of the majority as personified by Kavanaugh, she cannot legally obtain an abortion, and dies when an illegal abortion is botched. Or she survives but is subsequently jailed when it is determined that she engaged in an abortion attempt.
Kavanaugh will strengthen Federal enforcement of marijuana laws, put otherwise upstanding citizens who engage in marijuana use into jail (especially the blacks who an ill-afford a defense) and promote beer and booze and lots of it, without concern that overindulgence in alcohol is at the root of many of our social failures.
Further, Trump commits egregious crimes while in, or before he entered, office. Justice Kavanaugh argues that a sitting president cannot be arrested or tried for any crime whatsoever.
Then the public demands that corporate funding of elections must end. Justice Kavanaugh argues strenuously that corporations are “people” and must be treated as such. Sad and nonsensical.
This guy is nothing more than a sycophant who will cater to the whim of Trump and his ilk.
Your defense of him rings hollow, and his seating will help an ego-driven madman to become a powerful force who identifies with the likes of Putin and Erdogan and Duterte and Kim Jong-un.
God help us and let us help ourselves by ridding ourselves of Trump and his minions.

Kavanaugh’s testimony and the FBI investigation was a joke.
As a judge, he committed perjury, showed bias, and did not present his testimony with either the facts or the law. I guess Yale isn’t that great of a law school if a sitting Federal Judge that is now a Supreme Court Justice can’t argue either the facts or the law!
