Some candidates better for Kauai
I am in full agreement with Judie Hoeppner of Lihue (letter to the editor Sept. 28) and her choice for new councilmembers. Over our 52 years residency on Kauai, Lorna and I have never seen a better opportunity to vote into office a “non-special interest” majority County Council.
This could be the year that Kauai’s voters win a “doubleheader” challenge by simply:
(1) voting in new faces, new ideas, new accomplishments, new transparency, new blood while at the same time;
(2) achieve solutions to “decades old goals” such as: begin solving our infrastructure and affordable housing problems; our need for road maintenance and new by-pass routes; and the establishment of an addiction facility as well as a domestic violence facilities for families; keikis, and adults. It is time to dump “special interest majorities” and the opportunity is staring us right in our face.
It’s time to serve “We the People” rather than groveling at the feet of “special money interest groups” willing to harm Kauai, its residents and visitors. Come early voting or voting day, Nov. 6, 2018, let’s make a difference this time: focus voting for only the following candidates: Mason Chock, Felicia Cowden, Luke Evslin, Billy DeCosta and Adam Roversi.
This generation of new candidates can start solving real problems. There’s a lot of retired expertise on our island: speaking for myself, I’ve built affordable housing and I know what it takes and I am willing to help a new council. I’m sure there are others willing to help in every segment of this new challenge, new accomplishment, new Kauai.

It seems that over the years Mr. Hoff has become Gary Hooser in disguise. Now it seems that for personal wealth interests, Mr Hoff has joined Gary and endorsed the very candidates that are in the hands of large mainland interests. Billy DeCosta and Luke Evslin are the only candidates on this list that have are Kauai centric. Gaty and the others go by the motto of tax everyone hard, take away property rights, have government control and take personal rights away. Vote for Kauai, not Mainland interest groups.

John have you ever met the Hoeppner’s? Even if you did, there time on the island does not make them experts on the people that have lived here for years. I don’t know what they are basing their choices on, really don’t care, I do know that I would/have voted for only one person on their list, Billy.

I suppose so. But if you know, a dismal showing at the primary election. Why them? And better still, why David Ige? This is from the richer and smarter point of view. Nobody is going to pay any taxes because the county or state representation are crap. No profile, and therefore no business done on any level. All I see in the news is advertising for family, kids, little league championship dreams, and so forth. There are no real jobs being done by your local “I played UH football and high school sports” public sector. Just them who are voting for you. Not the real show.
Let us not beat around the bush here. If you want to drive some taxi cab and make money doing it, just sign up. This whole idea of sports high school students wanting to be politicians after high school and college sports is a stupid “hear say” that they are smarter than the other not “so known students” in high school because nobody heard their name announced on the speakers during a ball game at Vidhina stadium. As you can see, a job requires skills. Of which these candidates coming out of school at age 50, have no skills but finding out the Yankees were ousted from the playoffs. Does this sound about right to you? And think again, due to computers, it makes it easier to disagree with athletes and still athletes in government, because he thinks he became smarter and more compassionate over the years. This is what I call a crap news. And also classified as spam news. Jack – in the – box restaurants serve good hamburgers too. Do you see the idea behind this advertising. Monopolistic competition. Better avenues to get a job done. Not just via a sports icon and governor.
