Some candidates better for Kauai
I am in full agreement with Judie Hoeppner of Lihue (letter to the editor Sept. 28) and her choice for new councilmembers. Over our 52 years residency on Kauai, Lorna and I have never seen a better opportunity to vote into office a “non-special interest” majority County Council.
This could be the year that Kauai’s voters win a “doubleheader” challenge by simply:
(1) voting in new faces, new ideas, new accomplishments, new transparency, new blood while at the same time;
(2) achieve solutions to “decades old goals” such as: begin solving our infrastructure and affordable housing problems; our need for road maintenance and new by-pass routes; and the establishment of an addiction facility as well as a domestic violence facilities for families; keikis, and adults. It is time to dump “special interest majorities” and the opportunity is staring us right in our face.
It’s time to serve “We the People” rather than groveling at the feet of “special money interest groups” willing to harm Kauai, its residents and visitors. Come early voting or voting day, Nov. 6, 2018, let’s make a difference this time: focus voting for only the following candidates: Mason Chock, Felicia Cowden, Luke Evslin, Billy DeCosta and Adam Roversi.
This generation of new candidates can start solving real problems. There’s a lot of retired expertise on our island: speaking for myself, I’ve built affordable housing and I know what it takes and I am willing to help a new council. I’m sure there are others willing to help in every segment of this new challenge, new accomplishment, new Kauai.
