Edwin Vea (he’s got the Beach House craft fair Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Poipu) scored some of the Waimea Senior Center temari holiday ornaments (Melanie Okamoto was able to get some for her Christmas tree too), and Sumako Ichimasa got Marian Ogata one of the adenium bonsai from the annual Senior Food and Craft Fair (kudos to Na Kupuna Council and the county Department of Parks and Recreation in presenting this event) Saturday at the Kauai War Memorial Convention Hall in Lihue.

Donna Gushiken of the Kilauea Ukulele Band (isn’t that the group Alice Parker catches the Kauai Bus to practice with?) is now playing guitar because Kamala Mersberg does not only a great job on the pakini bass, she does great with vocals (especially that “Sweet Lady of Waihole”), and mahalo to Marilyn Matsumoto of the Lihue Senior Center for the omiyage.
Gutsy Okada came early from Waimea, and said he had to leave the Kauai Interscholastic Federation volleyball game (people are still talking about what a great matchup it was) in the fourth set so he could make the craft fair, and Wilma Chandler was able to help out at the Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital cancer walk and still have energy to sell out most of the Kapaa Senior Center offerings.
Over at the Lihue Christian Church (yes, many of the shoppers at their bazaar came over to the convention hall), the Cub Scouts from Pack 148 didn’t have to help because the Boy Scouts from Troop 148 (did Mark Tanaka make Eagle Scout?) were busy being gracious helpers carrying goodies to customers’ cars. Russell Maeda was calling out almost-nonstop prize giveaways (David Iha got one of Joanna Carolan’s books, and what did Joey Tanaka win?).
OK, time to go check out the new Kukui Grove play area that opens this morning.
