LIHUE — Richard Leibman is on the lam again, and the Kauai Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating him.
Known to North Shore residents as the “Jesus Bandit” because he was often been seen sporting a long beard and wearing a robe, Leibman has been diagnosed with schizophrenia and a personality disorder.
He has a long criminal history including unlawful entering, burglary, theft, resisting arrest, escape and assault against a law enforcement officer. He is wanted on three, $50,000 bench warrants for revocation or modification of probation.
This isn’t the first time he has failed to show up for a scheduled court appearance. In February 2016, a bench warrant for Leibman in the amount of $10,000 was issued after he failed to appear.
He was later located by police in a Poipu parking lot and apprehended after attempting to scale a wall during a chase in which he was alleged to have kicked a law enforcement officer.
In 2016, Leibman escaped from the Hawaii State Hospital in Kaneohe through an unlocked door, and was later captured after a foot chase.
In 2013, he was scheduled to fly to Texas with his mother, but disappeared at the airport. Police asked the public for assistance in locating him and he was later apprehended.
Leibman is a 40-year-old Caucasian male with green eyes and brown hair. He is 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighs about 150 pounds. He is believed to frequent the Princeville area.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to call KPD immediately at 241-1711.
