With the Oct. 16 deadline for Shop and Score looming, Waimea High is the top point-getter in the state in the Times Super Market Shop and Score 2018 program.
According to the latest website printout, Waimea leads the field of all eligible high schools in the state which are registered for the program, with 34,570 points, followed by Castle High School in Kaneohe, Oahu, with 30,890 points.
“This is about the community,” said Waimea High School Athletic Director Jon Kobayashi. “(We) thank the community for its support for the school.”
In the list of the Shop and Score Top 10, Kauai High School sits in fourth place with 27,734 points, and Kapaa High School is in seventh place with 22,673 points.
The Shop and Score program allows high schools in the state an opportunity to earn a share of $250,000 in Adidas equipment and uniforms. Shoppers simply shop at Times Super Market and Big Save stores and purchase items from participating sponsors, including many which are part of the supermarkets’ weekly advertised specials.
“Yes, we shop in the Shop and Score program,” said Jane Manuel, a Times Super Market associate. “It goes to help the schools, and because we’re in Lihue, our points go to Kauai High School.”
High schools needed to register for the program by Aug. 25.
Shoppers help their participating high school, both public and private, by shopping at Times/Big Save between now and Oct. 16 and designating an eligible participating school to receive the shopping points for specified items purchased.
“I’m so happy the Shop and Score program started,” Kobayashi said. “Since the start, we have gotten tremendous support in providing quality sports uniforms and equipment because of the help it provides to our small equipment budgets. I hope it continues.”
Each participating product purchased earns the school one Shop and Score point. A complete list of participating sponsor products can be found at www.timessupermarkets.com.
An additional bonus to the Shop and Score program is American Savings Bank awarding $25,000 in scholarships to outstanding students from the field of participating Shop and Score schools.
Following the Oct. 16 shopping deadline, each participating high school is guaranteed to receive a minimum of $500 in Adidas equipment and uniforms.
Each participating high school’s points will be totaled and their percentage to the total number of points awarded to all schools is determined. The school will then be awarded a portion of the $250,000 in Adidas equipment and uniforms based on the percentage of points they earned.
The equipment and uniforms will be provided by Sports Line based on the schools’ earned amount.
This is the 18th year Times Super Market has presented the program, and has donated more than $2.5 million in Adidas equipment and uniforms to Hawaii’s high school athletic programs.
