Support of amendment misguided
Regarding Gary Hooser’s support of SB2922 and “Whacking the Mole” (TGI Forum Sept. 19).
Really doctor, it won’t hurt a bit? This time we will truly pay teachers what they are worth? Putting property taxes on the menu at a smorgasbord is For-da-Kids? Maybe you should explain to me again why we don’t audit. While we’re at it, refresh my memory about the “Hurricane Relief Fund.”

Stu Burley will be missed
Thank you, Editor Bill Buley, for your tribute to Stu Burley on the front page of The Garden Island on Sept. 15. Stu was a good friend of mine, primarily through our association in The Navy League and weekly dinners at PMRF Shenanigans club. As your article stated, Stu was so giving of his time and talents to so many organizations and people on Kauai, including mentoring students in the schools.
Since he passed so quietly Aug. 18, your article is much appreciated by myself and his many, many friends. Aloha, Stu. You are truly missed.

Try to have a sense of humor
On Sept. 16, The Garden Island published a joke about Trump that I had submitted as a letter. The following day, a letter was published objecting to the publishing of the joke, finding it hurtful, tacky and hateful.
I admit I picked a tacky Trump joke. Most anything related to Trump is tacky. I had to weigh hurtful versus funny and funny won. Sorry about the hurtful.
Of course, Trump trades in the hurtful. He has hurtful names for lots of people.
Should The Garden Island have published it? Yes, because they ARE bipartisan.
Both my joke and the response to it represent two parties: That’s bipartisan.
As for the hate part. It seems to me that Trump and Trumpies can dish out hate, but it looks like they can’t take it. The joke really wasn’t all that hateful anyway.
It just poked fun at Trump’s egotism — you must admit he’s an egotist.
You’re right again that I can’t seem to get over the election. I don’t think I ever will.
But ending the break in civility might start with all of us having a sense of humor.

In response to Charles Herbert – I get tired of Trump bashing, especially by those in the media. In this column Mr. Herbert says he can’t get over the election. So here’s my advice. Stop bemoaning his tweets, and put downs of people (I don’t like that either), and look at the results, like record low unemployment, good stock market, the Korea’s making great progress, and much more.
One more question: Do you really think Hillary would have been better?? If so, you don’t know much about her past.

Herbert, you were wrong then, you are proving to be even more of an idiot than we thought after this second feeble attempt to explain the unexplainable joke about the death of a sitting President! A President who was overwhelmingly made our President by the vast majority of States in the United States! Why don’t you just admit you’re a sore loser and cockeyed snowflake who internalizes “little feelings” over the incredible results for America, and the American people, this President has had? The first President in your lifetime who has actually kept, or attempted diligently to keep, all of their promises since their election? Though you’re out to lunch with any common sense whatsoever, we’re sure you will gladly accept the incredible economy, plethora of good jobs available to everyone who wants one, the 2 plus thousand dollars you will put in your pocket this year because of the wonderful tax cuts, and the 3 Trillion dollars in additional American wealth earned for all of us by this Wonderful President since he was soundly put into office!
In reality, the election victory was a matter of just 70,000 votes spread over three different states. One of the closest elections ever…and…included losing the popular vote by several million.
