HANALEI — Ocean Safety Bureau officials closed Hanalei Beach Monday afternoon to swimming until further notice due to a shark sighting.
HANALEI — Ocean Safety Bureau officials reopened Hanalei Beach to swimming Tuesday morning after it was closed due to a shark sighting Monday afternoon.
Lifeguards reported that a roughly 6-to-8-foot shark was sighted off shore about 3 p.m.
As a safety precaution, Ocean Safety officials advised no swimming until further notice and signs were posted to warn beachgoers of the shark sighting.
Lifeguards reassessed the area this morning and determined the beach could be reopened.
