Matthew Snyder of California was happy Anaina Hou re-opened Sunday following its closure in consideration of Hurricane Lane because his kids, Joey and Wallace, needed to be in the water to keep them settled. Unfortunately, the jellyfish decided this was the time to come ashore at Anini so the Snyder ohana made do with the giant kid games and mini golf.

Ruth Melchor, a previous Miss Kauai Filipina, was working (thank heaven for babysitters), and Kalena Estrella (she said people from Kekaha were calling to see if they were open) wanted to know when we’re going to have a Miss Portuguese pageant.
Dr. Brian Yamamoto (school is back in session at Kauai Community College today!) had some of the Okinawa Prefectural College of Nursing students on a tour of the North Shore, and stopped by to check out the Kama‘aina Sunday (Saraiah Serrato was moving fast!) where even passing showers couldn’t dampen anyone’s spirits.
Over at the Anaina Hou Playground, Bill Chase had his crews out working to complete the structure that is being headed by Playgrounds by Leathers, the same builder of the Kamalani Playgroound.
OK, it’s back-to-school time now that Lane has left us — we have Kauai Interscholastic Federation sporting events starting as early as Wednesday.
