And for those who were kept on the outside of that huge chefs demonstration crowd at the Kauai Culinary Market at The Shops at Kukuiula, the chefs were Thomas Metcalfe and Dexter Olivier of Salty Wahine Gourmet Salts (you have to try the passion fruit chili pepper — locals like Kathy “Tita” Collins would say “peppa” — on kalua and cabbage!)
Kudos to Pam Arroyo and the Regency at Puakea ohana (Randi Peters said the kitchen was making flying saucers too!) on hosting their bon dance for the residents with the help of the Revs. Tomo Hojo (he’s got that Everyday Buddhism seminar Saturday at Lihue Hongwanji), Kohtoku Hirao from the West Kauai Buddhist churches (the Rev. Noriaki Fujimori and the Waimea Higashi Hongwanji have their bon dance starting this evening). Alton Miyamoto said this was their feel-good project that worked, as the residents were dancing in their chairs.
OK, time to get ready for the Koloa Plantation Days Parade and Park Celebration (Tina Brun is going to have Filipino food with the St. Raphael Church group!).
