Kudos to Kirsti Vedenoja and her Kauai Roots ohana on opening at the Kauai Culinary Market Wednesday at The Shops at Kukuiula with her offerings of aquaponic products (ever see such juicy, big mint, or cress leaves?)! Laurie Ho and Bill Spitz found some time to squeeze in the market and got a whole bunch of the aquaponics, and Char Jensen said Kauai Roots is only limited to appearances in Kukuiula (just like the Rancher’s Daughter beef!).

Helaine Perel is busy getting the shopping center ready for the Koloa Plantation Days historic sugar exhibit (Stacie Chiba-Miguel said storyteller Kathy “Tita” Collins is really good) that takes place Monday from 6 p.m.
Justin Stonner of Uncle D’s found parking just in time for the chef’s demonstration, where he cranked out some green papaya slaw with grilled pineapple that was a hit with shoppers (one wanted the bottle Justin used to make the slaw). Chef Judy Capertina of Haole Girl Sweets also was able to get parking after delivering her “raw” wedding cake to Waimea and make it back to the marketplace.
OK, don’t forget, the Koloa Plantation Days kick off this afternoon with the rodeo at CJM Country Stables in Poipu.
And, for those who don’t want the “country roads” experience, Kapaa Hongwanji Mission hosts its bon dance today and Saturday, with the food booth and country store opening at 5:30 p.m. on both days, and dancing to start at 7:30 p.m.
