KALAHEO — The Kauai Lynx captured three wins for its four teams Thursday night during the youth basketball summer league games at Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
Kadee Parubrub got help from Joelina Cumlat and Jasmine Contantino to lead the Lynx 7, comprised primarily of seventh -grade students, to a 27-15 win over the Lynx 6, a team comprised of primarily sixth-grade students.
Parubrub took high-point honors with eight pointsm, followed by Cumlat netting seven points and Constantino finishing with six points for the win. Denise Alfonso topped the Lynx 6 effort with five points.
Earlier in the evening, the fifth-grade Kauai Lynx took a 19-11 edge over the fifth-grade Kaulupono team behind Denise Alfonso netting seven points and Kate Lynn Colipano adding six points.
Kiarra Rita-Ortiz topped the Kaulupono effort with four points, with three Kaulupono players, Kyani Bagaoisan-Rita, Wailana and Tiria each adding pairs.
Sandwiched between those games, Amalya Sales finished with a game-high 15 points when the Lynx out-distanced itself from the Ballers, 32-15, during the match in the eighth- and ninth-grade division.
The Ballers started the 16-minute half on a strong note, staying ahead of the Lynx behind scoring from Hailey Overmyer.
Midway through the half, Overmyer looked toward her bench for rest and the Lynx took control behind the balanced scoring from Brianna Bernardo, Alena Bernardo, Bailey Perreira, Jessica Cezar and Sales.
Sales finished with 15 points, followed by six points from Cezar and five points from Zoe Santa Maria.
Overmyer topped the Ballers’ scoring with 11 points. Trislee Souza and Lilya Cummings each added a pair.
