LIHUE — A total of six games — five boys’ matches and a girls’ match — were in the Youth Basketball summer league being played at two sites, the Kauai Christian Fellowship Southshore athletic facility, and the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
Na Koa basketball played all three games at the Southshore facility while the Lihue Warriors under Coach Max Manera had three games at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
While Na Koa soared to a 34-11 halftime lead over the Lihue Lakers Purple, no final results were available at press time.
At the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center, the Warriors finished with two wins, splitting its series with the Hotshots, and taking the final match over the Kauai Thunder, 63-16.
Elijah Lautej led the Warriors Volt in the victory on 14 points with Syrus Delos Reyes adding a dozen marks.
Kala‘iakea Esteban fueled the Kauai Thunder effort on six points.
Earlier in the night, the Warriors claimed a 43-28 win over the Hotshots behind 16 points from Kanaloa and nine points from Cody (no last names listed on the game rosters). Ethan Maniz topped the Hotshots’ effort on 10 points with Conner O’Laughlin and Noah Valenciano each tucking in five points.
Game 2 saw a reversal as the Hotshots ran over the Warriors Blue, 55-8 behind a dozen points netted by JR Batuyong. Randell Fernandez finished with nine points and Lindsey Constantino added six points in the win.
Lihue was scoreless until the 4:51 mark of the first 16-minute half when Tevita Vaenuku found the net for two of his game-total four points. Hunter Corpuz and John Vincent Sibuma each found the net for two points.
Games in the youth basketball summer league continue Thursday with three games on tap starting at 6 p.m. at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center.
The Lynx fifth grade girls will face off against Kaulupono in the 6 p.m. tipoff followed by the Lynx, ninth grade girls going up against the Ballers at 7 p.m. The Lynx 6 seventh grade girls will close the night against the Lynx 7.
