Melissa Paterson discovered her son’s love for robotics Saturday when she happened on the Meet the Robots event taking place at Kukui Grove Center. Melissa McFerrin-Warrack (nope, she was busy selling shopping bags at the Kauai Community Market!) said since the robots have all returned from their Oahu competition, the robotics alliance decided it was a good time to get people to Meet the Robots.

Brian Catlin was impressed with Martian Binonwangan of St. Catherine School (remember him from the science fair?) who never built a robot in his life. Martian said it took him two days to build the Vex craft that silently and deftly avoided the tracking of the Kauaibots’ clanging big boy going through its mission.
Glenn Nakamoto said the St. Catherine robotic team was working on getting the Holy Hammer (that’s the middle school class robot) going. He said the Kauaibots’ team did well at the FIRST competition at the University of Hawaii. Last year, their robot earned the Creative Engineering award.
Brian said a lot of the robotics operators are graduates of the CAD class the robotics alliance is offering on Sunday afternoons at the robotic workshop in Kukui Grove Center.
Kudos to Mark Perriello, Vianne Tabata, Carol Manera Texeira and Anna Baudouin (they even got Cov Ratcliffe up early Sunday!) on another great golf tournament that fuels the chamber scholarships!
