Benjamin Baguinon Caoagas
Benjamin Baguinon Caoagas, 76, of Lihue, passed away at Wilcox Memorial Hospital, on April 21, 2018. He was born in Paoay, Ilocos Norte, Philippines on Sept. 14, 1941, and retired as a Surveyor with Amfac Sugar Co.
He is preceded in death by parents, Tomas and Adriana Caoagas; brother, Ulpiano Caoagas; brother-in-law, Warlino Menor.
Benjamin is survived by his wife, Eliza Caoagas of Lihue; sons, Marlo (Melisa Pegeder) Caoagas of Puhi, Adrian (Reichell Robles) Caoagas of Seattle, WA, Christopher (Leah) Caoagas of Lihue; daughter, Melanie Caoagas of Seattle, WA; 14 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; brothers, Florentino (Erlina) Caoagas of Omao, Ferdinand (Estela) Caoagas of Wailua; sister, Carlina Menor of Las Vegas; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2018, at Immaculate Conception Church with viewing from 8 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.

Dennis Kiyomasu Ikehara
Dennis Kiyomasu Ikehara, 94 years old of Lihue, Kauai, passed away on April 12, 2018, at Wilcox Memorial Hospital. He was retired as Kauai County Administrator of Hawaii Institute of Tropical Agriculture Resources.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Y. Ikehara; sons, Keith (Joan Fujimura), Rodney (Celeste); daughters, Naomi (Dave) Hamamura, Amy (Michael) Yoshinaga, Janice (Royce) Fujimoto; 11 grandchildren; his brother, John (Betty) Ikehara.
A celebration of life will be held on June 6, 2018, at Kapaa United Church of Christ at 3 p.m. with visitation at 2 p.m.
Family requests no koden.
Robert Morris ‘Smash’ Tatom
Robert Morris “Smash” Tatom, passed away at the age of 74, on April 12, at Gulfport Memorial Hospital, Mississipi. He is a veteran of the U.S Army who served in Vietnam.
He is survived by his wife, Doloris Tatom; children, Ilanu Jenean Tatom, Piilani Marcel Tatom Medeiros, Robert Duke Limaloa Tatom, Summer Tatom, Joseph Tatom, Amanda Lacaze; 17 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his siblings; Benjamin Tatom, Denise Tatom Battistella, Kaimi Kinimaka King, Kaniu Kinimaka Stocksdale, Keala Kinimaka Senkus, Kapulani Kinimaka Alquiza, Titus Kinimaka, Nani Kinimaka Davis, Lihue Kinimaka Lopez and AleAleKai Kinimaka.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Lee Tatom and Ellen Kinimaka.
A memorial service will take place on June 3, 2018, at 1 p.m. at Kalapaki Bay, Nawiliwili, Kauai. A spreading of his ashes will take place after the services. There will also be a paina to follow at Kalapaki Beach Park.
The family requests casual attire.
Yasu Nakamatsu
Yasu Nakamatsu, 96, of Wailua Houselots, passed away at Garden Isle Healthcare, on April 6, 2018. He was born in Koloa on Oct. 2, 1921. A Veteran of the United States Army 442 Infantry Regiment, “K’ Company, he also was the proprietor of Kuhio Fish Market in Kapaa.
Preceded in death by his wife, Sue Shizue Nakamatsu; son, Claron Nakamatsu; grandson, Liloa Nakamatsu; sister, Yae Nakamatsu-Gushiken; brothers, Mike (Yachiyo) Nakamatsu, Yasuo (Gladys) Nakamatsu.
Yasu is survived by daughter, Sheilah Miyake; son, Baron Nakamatsu; granddaughter, Michele Miyake; grandson, Kahai Nakamatsu; daughter-in-law, Terri Nakamatsu; numerous nieces and nephews.
Private services were held.

John ‘Jimmy’ James Palmeira
John “Jimmy” James Palmeira, Jr., 87 years old of Kapaa, Kauai, passed away on May 1, 2018, at Kauai Care Center in Waimea, Kauai. Born on Nov. 3, 1930, in Koloa, Kauai, he was a retired United States Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer, Maintenance Engineer for Wilcox Memorial Hospital, Coco Palms Hotel, Marine Engineer for Waialeale and Smith’s Motor Boat Tours.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Daisy Borges Palmeira; brother, Antone “Tony” Palmeira, Walter “Wally” Palmeira.
He is survived by his wife, Belmida R. Palmeira; sons, Randall “Randy” (Chris) Palmeira, Michael “Kimo” (Dana) Palmeira, Laurence “Larry” (Julia) Palmeira; daughters, Rose M. Palmeira, Debora (Stuart) McKenzie, Naomi (Greg) Francis; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 2 great great-grandchildren; brother, Ernest Palmeira; numerous, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Celebration of life will be held on Sunday, May 20, 2018, at 3:30 p.m. at the Kauai Veterans Center Kapule Highway in Lihue. Private burial at a later date.

Ulla Heyn
Ulla Margareta Heyn, passed away on Thursday, May 10, 2018, at home. Born in May 1925, in Stockholm, Sweden, she was a housewife and a travel agent.
Ulla is survived by her husband, Bob of Kauai; daughters, Carla of San Diego, Karen of New York; son, Greg of Lexington, Kentucky; several grandchildren and great grand children; two step-daughters, Shelby and Cynthia of California.
Ulla came to the United States at a young age and became a naturalized citizen. Her hobbies were needlepoint pictures and pillows of Kauai’s birds and tropical flowers. She loved her garden and was active in Republican Politics. She believed strongly in a two party government. She was also active in the Mokihana Club.
Hospice assisted the family with her care. A memorial service for family and friends is being planned for a future date.
Hideo Sasaki
Hideo Sasaki, passed away on May 6, 2018, at the age of 90, in Lihue. He was born on July 7, 1927. He served in the United States Army and was a line serviceman for Hawaiian Airlines.
He is preceded in death by his son, Sherwin Sasaki; father, Noboru Sasaki; mother, Tetsu Sasaki; sisters, Tsuruye Nishi and Edith Ibe; brothers, Takeshi Sasaki, Mitsuru Sasaki and Tsuyoshi Sasaki and granddaughter, Nicole Thomas.
He is survived by his wife, Michie Sasaki of Lihue; son, Stafford Sasaki of Hanamaulu; daughters, Sheilah (Stephen) Thomas of Wailua Homesteads; grandchildren, Dawn S. Fukushima (Kenneth) Cummings, Brandon (Leo) Thomas; great grandchildren, Tierny Waialeale (Chris) Fu, Teagan Waialeale, Keona Peahu, Kawananakoa Peahu, Kahinu Peahu, Kamuela Peahu, Kenneth (Melissa) Cummings, Kyary Cumming, Kaliyah Cummings, Brooklyn Thomas & Bronx Thomas; great-great grandchildren, Tavis Fu, Tariq Fu, Tazin Fu and Kaniela Peahu; sisters, Akiyo Matsuyama, Momoe Sato; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A celebration of life will be held on May 19, 2018, at the Kauai Veterans Cemetery. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. with services to begin at 11 a.m.

Gavin Ishii
Gavin Ishii, 39, of Oxnard, CA, was tragically taken too soon doing what he loved the most on Wednesday, May 9, 2017. Rest easy until we see you again.
He was born on March 13, 1979, on the island of Kauai, Hawaii. Moving to Oxnard, CA as a teenager, you could take the boy from the island, but never take the island from the boy. A true local boy at heart, he loved his family, his home state, animals, cars, and good food. Gavin finally found his stride in life, graduating from technical school and finding a great career where he could put his handiness and work ethic to good use.
A proud father, beloved son, and cherished brother, Gavin will be missed by friends and family alike. He is survived by his parents, Linda and Ronald Robles of Oxnard, CA; brother, Shane (Rick) Ishii-Huffer of Auburn, WA; son, Tyler Fontanilla of Kapaa; sister, Celina (Ryan) Osgood; brother, Ronald (Ashley) Robles, Jr.; sister, Sofia (Leo) Jurado; niece, Tabytha and nephews, Nolan and Ronald III; and extended families. His Grandmother, Mary Lou Correa, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins of the Ishii and Correa families of Hawaii join in our grief.
Gavin was preceded in death by his father, Steve Ishii, of Kauai.
Mainland memorial services will be held on Thursday, May 17, 2018, in Camarillo, CA.
Additional services and celebration of life and final resting plans will occur on Kauai at a date to be determined by the family. We will announce these plans as they become available.
Consolita B. Agbulos
Consolita B. Agbulos, 90 years old, of Kekaha, Kauai, passed away on April 7, 2018, at Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital. Born on Sept. 3, 1927, in Vigan Ilocos Sur, Philippines, she was a housewife.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Aurellano A. Agbulos; father, Paulo Bautista; mother, Florencia Catura Bautista; son-in-law, Mark Maruyama.
She is survived by her 3 daughters, Avelina Maruyama of Kekaha, Doris Agbulos of Kekaha, Nely (Danillo) Caberto of Kekaha; 3 grandchildren, Telissa (Kekoa Woo) Agbulos, Nekicia Maruyama, Keane Caberto; 3 great-grandchildren, Jordyn Maruyama-Chang Wo, Mahina Woo, Tykei Chang Wo; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friend may visit with the family on May 26, 2018, at St. Theresa’s Church in Kekaha from 9 to 10:45 a.m. where mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. There will be a burial to follow at Kekaha public cemetery.

Charles Perry Spencer
Charles Perry Spencer, 86 years old, passed away on May 8, 2018. He was born on Aug. 3, 1931, in Imaly City, MI. He was a veteran of the US Army and served in the Korean Conflict. He was retired from United Airlines as a parts operator.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Levi and Kathleen Spencer; brother, Glenn Spencer.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jean Spencer; children, Rebecca Hostallero and Joel Spencer; grandchildren, Kyle, Chenoa and Rachel Hostallero; one great grandchild; brother, James Spencer of Grosse Point Wood, MI and many nieces, nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at Lihue Missionary Church on May 20, 2018. Visitation at 3 p.m. services to follow at 4 p.m. A light lunch will be served.
