Robert Morris ‘Smash’ Tatom
Robert Morris “Smash” Tatom passed away at the age of 74 on April 12, 2018, at Gulfport Memorial Hospital in Mississipi. He was a veteran of the U.S Army who served in Vietnam.
He is survived by wife Doloris Tatom, children Ilanu Jenean Tatom, Piilani Marcel Tatom Medeiros, Robert Duke Limaloa Tatom, Summer Tatom, Joseph Tatom and Amanda Lacaze, 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by siblings Benjamin Tatom, Denise Tatom Battistella, Kaimi Kinimaka King, Kaniu Kinimaka Stocksdale, Keala Kinimaka Senkus, Kapulani Kinimaka Alquiza, Titus Kinimaka, Nani Kinimaka Davis, Lihue Kinimaka Lopez and AleAleKai Kinimaka.
He was preceded in death by parents Robert Lee Tatom and Ellen Kinimaka.
A memorial service will take place on June 3 at 1 p.m. at Kalapaki Bay. A spreading of his ashes will take place after the services. There will also be a paina to follow at Nawiliwili Park.
The family requests casual attire.
John ‘Jimmy’ James Palmeira Jr.
John “Jimmy” James Palmeira Jr., 87, of Kapaa, passed away on May 1, 2018, at Kauai Care Center in Waimea.
Born on Nov. 3, 1930, in Koloa, he was a retired U.S. Coast Guard chief petty officer, maintenance engineer for Wilcox Memorial Hospital and Coco Palms Hotel, and marine engineer for Waialeale and Smith’s Motor Boat Tours.
He was preceded in death by parents John and Daisy Borges Palmeira and brothers Antone “Tony” Palmeira and Walter “Wally” Palmeira.
He is survived by wife Belminda R. Palmeira, sons Randall “Randy” (Chris) Palmeira, Michael “Kimo” (Dana) Palmeira and Laurence “Larry” (Julia) Palmeira, daughters Rose M. Palmeira, Debora (Stuart) McKenzie and Naomi (Greg) Francis, 15 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, brother Ernest Palmeira and numerous, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, May 20, at 3:30 p.m. at the Kauai Veterans Center on Kapule Highway in Lihue. A private burial will be held at a later date.
The family suggests casual attire and requests that flowers be omitted.
Garden Island Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.
Anson N. Takemoto
Anson N. Takemoto passed away on Feb. 15, 2018, in Pataskala, Ohio. He was born on Jan. 17, 1957.
He was preceded in death by father James Taro Takemoto, paternal grandparents Sotaro and Matsuyo Okazaki Azeka and paternal grandfather Kyotaro Takimoto, and maternal grandparents Teijii Tanaka and Kimi Inomoto Tanaka.
He is survived by mother Audrey Takemoto of McCleary, Washbington and Wailua, and sister Naomi Takemoto of McCleary, Washington. He is also loved and remembered by his many relatives on the Azeka, Aseka, Hamada, Okazaki, Sugihara, Tanaka and Yasutake family clan. Due to health-related issues he lived in Ohio for several years. He will be remembered by those who knew him well as a fun, happy-go-lucky and caring person with a distinct laugh and smile.
A private service will be held at the Kapaa United Church of Christ. Arrangements have been entrusted to Caliman Funeral Services, calimanfuneralservices.com.
Cherylene Anita Delos Santos
Cherylene Anita Delos Santos, 71, of Lihue, passed away at home on April 13, 2018. She was born in Lihue on Aug. 28, 1946, and retired as a housekeeper at Mokihana of Kauai.
She was preceded in death by husband Jay Delos Santos, parents Paula Ballesteros and Larry Pascual, and brothers Lance Pascual and Leland Pascual.
She is survived by children James McNichols, Laura McNichols, Alvie Morris and Kammy Morris, father Larry Ballesteros, 14 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, brothers Dennis Pascual, Rudy Ballesteros, Lawrence Pascual, Charles Raco, Edwin Ramos, Howard Ramos and Merlyn Raco, stepmother Florence Pascual, sisters Mamo Keopuhiwa, Sharmaine Simao, Jerry Ebinger and Georgia Farthing, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 9, at Immaculate Conception Church, with visitation from 8 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Inurnment will be held privately at Kalapaki Bay Memorial Park.

Benjamin Baguinon Caoagas
Benjamin Baguinon Caoagas, 76, of Lihue, passed away at Wilcox Medical Center on April 21, 2018. He was born in Paoay, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, on Sept. 14, 1941, and retired as a surveyor with Amfac Sugar Co.
He was preceded in death by parents Tomas and Adriana Caoagas, brother Ulpiano Caoagas and brother-in-law Warlino Menor.
He is survived by wife Eliza Caoagas of Lihue, sons Marlo (Melisa Pegeder) Caoagas of Puhi, Adrian (Reichell Robles) Caoagas of Seattle and Christopher (Leah) Caoagas of Lihue, daughter Melanie Caoagas of Seattle, 14 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, brothers Florentino (Erlina) Caoagas of Omao and Ferdinand (Estela) Caoagas of Wailua, sister Carlina Menor of Las Vegas, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 19, at Immaculate Conception Church, with viewing from 8 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.

Folgencia “Flo” “Inshiang” Domingo Abrams
Folgencia “Flo” “Inshiang” Domingo Abrams, 81, passed away in Oakland, California, on April 12, 2018. She was born on March 9, 1937 in Waimea.
She was preceded in death by parents Justo and Susan “Corsino” Domingo, sister Frances Short, brothers Flaviano “Philip” Rodolpho, Bernaldo and Tomas, sisters-in-law Juana and Erika Domingo, former husband Barry Abrams, niece Nadine Alvaro, grand-nieces Dayna Mae Domingo and Michille Lee Short, and grand-nephew Gary D. Morris.
She is survived by daughter Angelica, son-in-law Bhraath, beloved grandsons Kirin Agustin and Krishnan Andres (Ev Soria), her siblings, sister Loretta King, brothers Sylvestre “Bestre,” Ernesto “Ernie” Ray and “Mondo” (Janet) Domingo, numerous nieces and nephew, and former husband Agustin (Annabele Agcaoili).
A celebration of life will be held at the Waimea Neighborhood Center on May 19, officiated by the Rev. Lois Drake from San Diego at 10 a.m.
The family requests that bright colors be worn.
A scattering of her ashes and luncheon celebration will follow.
Yasu Nakamatsu
Yasu Nakamatsu, 96, of Wailua Houselots, passed away at Garden Isle Healthcare on April 6, 2018. He was born in Koloa on Oct. 2, 1921. A veteran of the U.S. Army 442 Infantry Regiment K Company, he also was the proprietor of Kuhio Fish Market in Kapaa.
He was preceded in death by wife Sue Shizue Nakamatsu, son Claron Nakamatsu, grandson Liloa Nakamatsu, sister Yae Nakamatsu-Gushiken, and brothers Mike (Yachiyo) Nakamatsu and Yasuo (Gladys) Nakamatsu.
He is survived by daughter Sheilah Miyake, son Baron Nakamatsu, granddaughter Michele Miyake, grandson Kahai Nakamatsu, daughter-in-law Terri Nakamatsu, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Private services were held.

Ulla Margareta Heyn
Ulla Margareta Heyn passed away on Thursday, May 10, 2018, at home. Born in May 1925 in Stockholm, Sweden, she was a housewife and a travel agent.
She is survived by husband Bob of Kauai, daughters Carla of San Diego and Karen of New York, son Greg of Lexington, Kentucky, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and step-daughters Shelby and Cynthia of California.
She came to the United States at a young age and became a naturalized citizen. Her hobbies were needlepoint pictures and pillows of Kauai’s birds and tropical flowers. She loved her garden and was active in Republican politics. She believed strongly in a two-party government. She was also active in the Mokihana Club.
Hospice assisted the family with her care. A memorial service for family and friends is being planned for a future date.
Hideo Sasaki
Hideo Sasaki passed away on May 6, 2018, at the age of 90 in Lihue. He was born on July 7, 1927.
He served in the U.S. Army and was a line serviceman for Hawaiian Airlines.
He was preceded in death by son Sherwin Sasaki, father Noboru Sasaki, mother Tetsu Sasaki and granddaughter Nicole Thomas.
He is survived by wife Michie Sasaki of Lihue, son Stafford Sasaki of Hanamaulu, daughters Sheilah (Stephen) Thomas of Wailua Homesteads, grandchildren Dawn S. Fukushima (Kenneth) Cummings, Brandon (Leo) Thomas, great-grandchildren Tierny Waialeale (Chris) Fu, Teagan Waialeale, Keona Peahu, Kawananakoa Peahu, Kahinu Peahu, Kamuela Peahu, Kenneth (Melissa) Cummings, Kyary Cumming, Kaliyah Cummings, Brooklyn Thomas and Bronx Thomas, great-great-grandchildren Tavis Fu, Tariq Fu, Tazin Fu and Kaniela Peahu, sisters Akiyo Matsuyama and Momoe Sato, and numerous uncles, aunties, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A celebration of life will be held on May 19, at the Kauai Veterans Cemetery in Hanapepe. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. with services begin at 11 a.m.
