LIHUE — Ballet, hula, hip-hop and contemporary dance are all on tap during the Mokan Nokan Dance Explosion at the Kauai Dance Center in Lihue.
The first of four shows is on Saturday and the May event lineup also celebrates Kauai Dance Center’s 20th year in business.
“Experience beautiful costumes, lighting, music, and acreative and imaginative program that will delight and entertain,” said Jennifer Bell-Grey, artistic director at the Kauai Dance Center.
The intimate show is created by students at Kauai Dance Center. Students ages three through adult will be performing.
“Traditional classical ballet favorites and original hip-hop dances make this show a one-of-a-kind performance not to be missed,” Bell-Grey said.
For 20 years, KDC has been offering dance classes for adults and keiki. Instructors hail it as a chance to develop or refine poise and grace, self-expression and creativity, and balance and fitness.
Annually, KDC puts on a big show. The Mokan Nokan Dance Explosion will be performed on Saturday, May 5 and Saturday, May 12 at 6:30 p.m. Sunday May 13 is the ensemble show also set for 6:30 p.m.
A special graduation performance will be on May 6. KDC will be honoring dancers who have been with the school for more than 12 years.
That May 6 event begins with a 5 p.m. dinner, a 6:10 p.m. graduation ceremony and a 6:30 p.m. show.Tickets are $38.
Tickets for the rest of the shows are $25 for adults, $18 for juniors, and $12 for children.
