Rep. Tulsi Gabbard was on Kauai from Thursday through Saturday to assist with recovery efforts after a record-setting storm wiped out many homes and local businesses, left communities isolated due to landslides, and required hundreds to be evacuated.
After arriving in Lihue from Washington, D.C., the congresswoman attended briefs, met with first responders and collected supplies before heading to Hanalei.
She visited with community leaders like Joel Guy, Megan Wong, Mehana Vaughn, and Laird Hamilton who have been spearheading recovery efforts. They walked through some of the neighborhoods hardest hit, and heard from residents and small business owners whose properties have been severely damaged.
She visited volunteers who are distributing food and grocery items to local residents, drivers delivering food to families who cannot get to the distribution point, the nurses and doctor who have just stood up an urgent care clinic to provide medical aid, and drove through the areas hardest hit.
She held a meeting with community leaders to hear their concerns and address their questions.
Rep. Gabbard began Saturday morning at the Kauai County EOC Briefing to share the feedback and concerns from residents with government officials, then visited with Megan Fox from Malama Kaua‘i at Anini Beach where they’re loading boats with food and supplies for the isolated communities.
Gabbard is back in Washinton, D.C., today.
Never mind Gabbard. We’re getting along just fine with our your pandering.
Gabbard is the definition of opportunist. There’s lots of issues that she doesn’t have hard stances on and I contacted her, Schatz, Hirono, state and county reps to help me create a lunch break law for the state of Hawaii.
All the politicians declined and has refused to introduce a labor law to protect employees from hostile work environments.
My former company denied me lunch on several occasions because the manager thought they were smarter than company policies. They read that there’s NO state and federal that protects Veterans and employees from discrimination and retaliation.
The company covered up the incidents by firing the director then lawyered up and covers up facts. HIOSH and HCRC are incompetent. The FACTS and evidence was there and the investigator said the case was strong because the manager wrote a letter implicating himself of the company violation of not giving an employee lunch on days that he/she worked over 6.5 hours. Now one of those days was a 10 hour shift. What and how would anyone feel if they didn’t get a lunch on a 10 hour work day? How is this happening in this date and time is unacceptable.
Political games are opportunity for these faux for the people politicians to gain votes to secure their seat in office but when they refuse to help veterans and all working people then they should be called out.
Gabbard, Schatz, and Hirino are opportunists. I will support their competing politician for their lack of candor and courage to create a labor law that protects all.
As mentioned above. It’s true that hawaii labor laws are a joke…they are definitely pro business and could care less about workers rights…..were just the same as working in china…in hawaii you can work say 10-12 hrs in a day and company not required to give you any breaks or feed you for that matter…i get no breaks,at work….slave labor right here in hawaii..
Perhaps she can get a generous donation from her Butler Cult!
“All the politicians declined and has refused to introduce a labor law to protect employees from hostile work environments.”
It’s a State issue. Not sure why you think our Federal representatives are at fault, but I hope you contacted the Governor.
I guess you didn’t read the rest of my comment stating that I contacted state and county reps as well as our senators and reps.
Maybe you should read more to comprehend the entire comment instead of just picking a sentence to harp on.
Duh
Mahalo Tulsi for all of your help.
Yes hawaii has labor laws in line with third world countries(same as china sweat shops)….in hawaii you can, work all,day and are not required to be offered a break…alot of people dont know this unless you have a greedy boss(like I do)…and the labor board is pro business..not there to help employees what so ever.
