Congratulations to Kalani Vierra and the Kauai Fire Department Ocean Safety Bureau on the successful launch of the Nukumoi Point lifeguard tower that was wheeled into place at Poipu Beach Park under the watchful eyes of the monk seal (it’s a good thing the seals decided to delay their almost-
daily visits to Poipu) monitoring group of Charlie and Sue Fafard (they even got to watch Christian Manera throw his complete-game four-hitter against Waimea) who were in company of Herb and Melanie Hammam of Wisconsin (they said it’s snowing there).

The new tower adds a second set of lifeguards to Poipu Beach Park, where more visitors are frequenting since several of the North Shore beaches are inaccessible, and Lydgate Beach Park is clogged with driftwood (Dave “Malibu Dave” Strom is ecstatic with the abundant new source of running-in-the-sand sticks!).
Kudos to Hanalei School Principal Tahara‘a Stein and her volunteers for getting the school ready for re-opening Monday … Brent Mizutani, Mariann Tabuchi (her house was spared from the Waikomo Stream overflow, but her yard was not), and Heidi Aceret for tying up all the loose ends before doors re-open to students, teachers and staff.
More kudos to Stacie Chiba-Miguel, Veronica Lovesy (did anyone get Uncle’s Shave Ice while pulling all those supplies and monies together?), Jody Kjeldsen (her little ones are doing really well with Swim Kauai Aquatics), and the Hawaii Life team on their highly successful Kauai Disaster Relief effort at The Shops at Kukuiula!
