Landslide cleared; Kuhio Highway open

There was another landslide this morning, about 6, on Kuhio Highway between Lumahai and Wainiha, mile marker 6.2, blocking both lanes.

Kuhio Highway reopened shortly before 1 p.m. between Lumahai and Wainiha, mile marker 6.2.

A landslide about 6 this morning blocked both lanes.

Hawaii Department of Transportation crews conducted rock scaling operations, cleared debris and washed the road.

The landslide was caused by heavy rains that continue to pound Kauai.

It’s the fifth landslide in less than four weeks on the North Shore.

We visit the North Shore for over two months every year. Very concerned about emergency services when there is a road closure…what plans are in place for this?
