A dragon and fairy rock trade will highlight the Kauai Rocks — Spring Fling Rock Painting event from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Kamalani pavilion at Lydgate Park.
The celebration of painting rocks and rock trading will celebrate the group’s rise from about 200 members in August to more an estimated 2,500 members by the month’s end, said Melissa Costales, one of the founders of Kauai Rocks.
“Our group is working in tandem with several sponsors, and a ton of ‘Kauai Rockers’ who embody our mission and purpose,” Costales said. “There will be many gifted and talented people supporting the project, and many who are new and still learning.”
Starting with a potluck lunch, an introduction and rock painting fun follows for those who need an injection of creativity to rock painting.
Basic painting supplies will be provided. However, people are free to bring their own supplies as well as prepared themed (dragons and fairies) rocks to share or trade.
This will be followed by a Fairy and Dragon Garden Trade starting at 2:30 p.m. and precede the afternoon of games, including Jenga, Corn Hole, Horseshoes, Giant Bubbles, Konane, Checkers, and more. There will be prizes given away.
“We are a group that strives to model the spirit of the kindness rocks project,” Costales said. “Our goal is to share positive messages, pay forward by giving, encourage family and community, and to share all of that through the art of rock painting.”
