WAIMEA — Casera Silva emerged from two days of rodeo with three first-place finishes and a second-place finish following the Waimea Town Celebration Waimea Round Up Rodeo Friday and Saturday at the Friendship Do Ranch.
Silva, a part of the Keiki and High School Rodeo Association and the Kauai All Girl Rodeo Association, controlled the junior barrels, the wahine breakaway, and the keiki breakaway, and was edged out of the top spot by her sister Coryssa Silva in the wahine barrels by less than half a second.
Hallie Cristobal was the high money winner following two days of roping competition after snagging first- and second-place honors as the header in the mixed roping competition.
The Waimea Round Up Rodeo is a benefit for the Kauai Keiki and High School Rodeo Association, a nonprofit organization that promotes the sport of rodeo at the highest level. The association is committed to develop character, teach responsibility and focus on maintaining good grades in school for the member cowboys and cowgirls.
Members have been enriched with the rich paniolo tradition of Hawaii as they participate in the sport of rodeo, displaying the skills of the sport that has been passed down through the generations.
Keiki and High School members participate in national rodeo events such as dally team roping, tie-down roping, ribbon roping, goat tying, pole bending, barrel racing, breakaway roping, chute dogging, cutting horse and reined cow horse, and add participation in events unique to Hawaii’s paniolo heritage including double mugging and the Poo Wai U.
The Waimea Round Up Rodeo funds the Keiki and High School Association to help cover costs of the district rodeo expenses during the season, and subsidizes travel expenses for the members who excel and advance to the state and national levels following the Kauai district season.
