Saturnina Igaya
Saturnina Igaya, 78, of Kapaa, passed away on Feb. 16, 2018, at Wilcox Medical Center.
Born on May 2, 1939, in the Philippines, she was a housekeeper.
She was preceded in death by Gaudencio (Dean) Igaya.
She is survived by husband Severino Igaya of Kapaa, sons Manny (Eleanor) Igaya of Kalaheo, Robert (Marita) Igaya of Kilauea and Jose (Jessica) Igaya of North Carolina, daughter Josephine “Josie” Igaya of Alaska, 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, sisters Rosa Taylor of Illinois, Simplica Atienza of Philippines and Segundina Cadapan of Philippines, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Monday, Feb. 26, at Garden Island Mortuary chapel in Lawai from 9 to 10:15 a.m., where services will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m.
Burial will follow at Lihue Cemetery.
The family suggests casual attire.
Garden Island Mortuary assisted the family with arrangements.
Roger A.
Ridgley Sr.
Roger A. Ridgley Sr., 92, of Kapaa, passed away peacefully at home on Feb. 13, 2018, following a short battle with cancer. Born Nov. 8, 1925, in Haverford, Pennsylvania, he was a retired tile setter and a retired stocker at Safeway from 1991 to 2001. He was a very proud WWII Navy veteran who served as a boatswain mate and section leader on LST-1006.
He was the beloved husband of 55 years to Gloria (DiTomo), who preceded him in death on June 2, 2004.
He is survived by son Roger A. (Carol) Ridgley Jr., granddaughter Erin Ridgley, great-grandchildren Hailey and Kain Gerena, daughter Deborah J. (Jerry) Pennington, grandson Jerry (Shannon), great-grandchildren Hunter, Connor and Braden, and granddaughter Rebecca.
A celebration of life will be on Saturday, March 3, at St. Catherine Church in Kapaa. Visitation with the family will begin at 9 a.m., and Mass will celebrated at 10 a.m. Refreshments will follow.
Internment will be held at a later date in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania.
The family requests that flowers be omitted.
John L.A. Kalili

A great Bible teacher!
John L.A. Kalili graduated from Kamehameha, Moody Bible Institute, University of Hawaii and Princeton Theological Seminary, received an honorary doctorate degree from Piedmont College, was a U.S. Army veteran and a warrior for Christ.
He was ordained as kahu at the Nanaikapono Protestant Church in 1956, and later served as director of Christian endeavor for the state of Hawaii, responsible for 72 societies. He pastored numerous Hawaiian churches throughout the state, and most recently as kahu of the Four Cooperating Congregational Churches, at Auwaiolimu, Wahiawa, Waikane and Waimanalo, on Oahu, through 2014.
He read his Bible daily and always made God first in his life. By his bold witness, he led many to the saving knowledge of Christ Jesus.
Born in Waialua to parents John K. Kalili and Helen K. Awai and raised in Haleiwa with brothers David Kaapu, Charles, Samuel and Thomas, and sisters Elnora “Nona” (Otholt) O’Neil, Lorna “Hau‘oli” Hiers, Delanette Kalili and Amy Asano, they all loved to fish, work, play sports and games, and sing.
Married to Peggy Y. Miura, they had three children: Daniel (RoseLee) Kalili of Pearl City, Joy (Samuel) Wilson of Kapolei, and Ruth (Al Carbonel) of Koloa; 12 grandchildren: Kristie (Marlon) Cadiente, Alison Carbonel, Michelle (Spencer) Aguinaldo, DreanaLee Kalili, Jonah Wilson, Paul (Michelle) Knopf, Lea (Edwin) Apostol, Alan (Katherine) Kalili, Alexander Knopf (deceased), Ashleigh (Shawn) Remigio, Aston Carbonel, Samantha Wilson; and 10 great-grandchildren: Khloe, Ian, Sheynna, Jensen, “Ekolu,” Ethan, Sierrah, “AJ,” Saige and Ayva. The family looks forward to seeing him again in heaven with Christ.
Visitation will be at 5 p.m. and services at 6 p.m. at Hosoi on Monday, March 5. Visitation will take place again at 10 a.m. and services at 11 a.m. at Hosoi on Tuesday, March 6, followed by burial at 2 p.m. at the Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery in Kaneohe.
The family suggests aloha attire.
Barbara ‘Gail’ Seely
Barbara “Gail” Seely of Puhi (formerly Kapaa) died Oct. 12, 2017, after a short journey with ovarian cancer, at home surrounded by friends and supported by an amazing team from Kauai’s Conscious Living and Dying Caring Circle. She was preceded in death by parents Joseph and Agnes (Carroll) Seely and husband Richard “Dicky” Owens.
She is survived by brother Joseph (Peggy) Seely and sister Jill Seely, plus extended family in Austin, Texas. She is also survived by friends and Kauai chosen ohana Deirdre Layne, Jan Underhill, Linda Tani, Brenda and John Lee, Shawna Carol, Tom Cobb, Ken Jopling, Dennis Mendonca, Cindy Kester, Lainey Ruiz and others.
Born July 24, 1945, and raised in New York, she earned a master’s degree in photojournalism and film from the University of Texas at Austin. After living in Mexico and Boston, she was an assistant director in Hollywood for feature films and television series including “Touched By An Angel” and “Murder She Wrote.”
Her smile, storytelling and laughter were contagious. She had a special connection with Mother Mary, Mary Magdalene and Kuan Yin. She had journeys through the caves in southern France, communicating with Mother Mary.
After several trips to Kauai she fell in love with the Garden Island and her people, moving here here in 2012.
A strong swimmer, she loved swimming at Hanalei Bay and Kealia. She was a photojournalist and fine arts photographer both in Hawaii and on the Mainland. Her collection, “Where Our Loved Ones Sleep,” is a portrayal of Kauai’s beautiful cemeteries and the gifts left at gravestones in loving remembrance by family and friends.
Her friends, caregivers and ohana will gather to remember her amazing life and journey through death Saturday, March 3, at 3 p.m. at Hanalei Pavilion with music, a retrospective of her photography, paddle out, food and talk story. Jo Ann Reiko Henderson
Jo Ann Reiko Henderson passed away on Feb. 12, 2018.
She is survived by husband Gregory Henderson, father George Kanemoto, mother Kazuko Higashide, brother Clyde Kanemoto, aunties Alice “Aiko” Shigeta and Jean “Asae” Hamura, and numerous cousins on Kauai.
A celebration of life will be held March 10, at 10 a.m. at Lihue Christian Church.
