HANAPEPE — Zoie Recolan hit two home runs and Chloe Sales pitched the Campbell Sabers to a 15-2 win over host Waimea High School during the opening day of the Waimea Invitational softball tournament Thursday at the Hanapepe Stadium complex.
HANAPEPE — Zoie Recolan hit two home runs and Chloe Sales pitched the Campbell Sabers to a 15-2 win over host Waimea High School during the opening day of the Waimea Invitational softball tournament Thursday at the Hanapepe Stadium complex.
Waimea picked up two runs on five hits and was led by a double from Nikayla Oyamot-Taniguchi. Taira Abreu, Cheyla Goias-Soares and Starlynn Ripley each hit a single. Third baseman Cerriah Perreira doubled in the second inning but was left stranded.
Campbell’s Recolan topped the Sabers bats with two home runs, one in the second inning and the other coming in the third, to force a pitching change for the Menehune.
The Sabers picked up its second win after besting the Menehune. Earlier, Campbell was a 25-0 winner over Kalaheo High School.
Other Kauai Interscholastic Federation teams saw Kapaa take its first game, 18-1, over Farrington behind the pitching of Ini Marshall. Farrington suffered its second straight loss following a 23-0 defeat from Mililani.
Pearl City Chargers picked up its second straight win after getting past Kauai High School, 8-3. The Chargers earlier were a 10-1 winner over Waialua High School in pool play.
Pool play continues Friday starting at 11 a.m. at the Hanapepe Stadium complex. Elimination rounds will start Saturday morning from 9 a.m. with the championship game starting at 3 p.m.
