Monica ‘Miki’ Nagahisa
Monica “Miki” Nagahisa of Wailua passed away in Providence St. Peter Hospital, Washington, on Jan. 29, 2018, at the age of 69. She was born in Lihue on Feb. 12, 1948, and worked as an educational assistant at Kapaa High School in addition to fostering a multitude of disadvantaged/orphaned children.
She was a devout Catholic and parishioner of St. Catherine Church. She loved to travel, spend time with her family, sew, cook, and most of all, her faith.
She was preceded in death by parents Raymond X. Aki and Veronica E. Commons, brothers Jerome (Beverly), Michael (Pearl) and Blaise (Carol) Aki, and sister Claire Aki.
She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Albert Nagahisa, Jr., sons, Jason (Veronica) Nagahisa, Kennison (Christy) Nagahisa and Michael (Channel) Massad, daughters Shelley (Daryn) Nagahisa-Ohta, Michelle Nagahisa, Kimi (Kalama) Nagahisa and Kristy (Matt) Nagahisa, brothers Raymond Aki of Florida, Matthew Aki of Maui, Timothy (Karumi) of Oahu and Kevin Aki of Wisconsin, sisters Maria (Fred) Orr of Mililani, Maureen (Richard) Carvalho of Ewa Beach, Seana Aki of Mililani, Veronica (Greg) Lindo of Wisconsin, Anne (Ashbell) Park of Arizona and Elizabeth (Michael) Manning of Washington, 18 grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is remembered by many as a kind and generous soul who touched many people throughout her life. Her soul was a beautiful beacon of light that radiated to those around her. She walked in faith and not by sight, and firmly believed in love and forgiveness. She is deeply loved and missed.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 17, at St. Catherine Church in Kapaa. Viewing is at 9 a.m., with Mass celebrated at 10 a.m., and a reception to follow at the Coyle Hall.
Tsuruko ‘Tiko’ Johnston
Tsuruko “Tiko” Johnston, 86, of Lihue, passed away on Feb. 3, 2018, at her home.
Born on June 4, 1931, in Papaikou, Hawaii, she was a retired gift shop clerk.
She was preceded in death by husband Stanley A. Johnston, parents Eizo and Tsuru Matsumoto, brothers Eimitsu, Eiki, Eisho and Yoshio Matsumoto, and sisters Sadako Higa, Fumie Uratani and Sueno Lally.
She is survived by sons Robert Johnston, Douglas (Vickie) Johnston and Allan (Susan) Johnston, daughters Elizabeth Johnston and Mary (Dean) Pigao, grandchildren Tom (Ashley) Johnston, Paul Johnston, Heath (Cassy) Stintzi, Meghan (Josh) Stintzi-
Parker, Stephanie Stintzi, Marie (Dana) Perkins, Emily (Jason) LaMarche, Allison (Ryan) Harada, Stanley Johnston, Sara Johnston, Ashton (Josh Ka‘aumoana) Pigao, Natasha (Matt) Dennis, Whitney (Ryan Moura) Pigao and Drewan (Skyler Sadora) Pigao, great-grandchildren Tyler and Katie Johnston, Tyrone and Toby Stintzi, Brennan and Alex Parker, Sophie Stintzi, Rylan and Olivia Perkins, Isla LaMarche, and Madison and Casper Dennnis.
Private services were held.

Barbara-Jean Linoz-
Hodges of Kapaa passed away in Wilcox Medical Center on Jan. 29, 2018, at the age of 47. She was born on Oahu on Feb. 10, 1970, and was a cashier at Shell Gas Station in Kapaa.
She was preceded in death by her foster parents, Leonard and Marie Manguchei and mother Inocencia Linoz.
She is survived by husband Manny Hodges, daughters Mary-Ana Manguchei, Maile Hodges and Puaolena Hodges, granddaughter Jazlyn Manguchei, father Paul Kihano, and numerous aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, Feb. 23, 2018, at Immaculate Conception Church, with viewing from 8 a.m. and Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Kauai Memorial Gardens.

Hurley Jr.
Jay James Hurley Jr. passed away on Jan. 1, 2018. He was born on June 10, 1941.
He was preceded in death by father Jay James Hurley Sr., mother Edna Telles Hurley, brother Hugh Allen Hurley and wife Arlene Gene Ah Heong Wong Hurley.
He is survived by sons Sean S. Hurley, Jay J. Hurley III, James T. (Priscilla) Hurley and Jared S. (Corrina) Hurley, daughters Carmel K. (Thomas) Hurley and Cherith K. (Eliot) Reinhardt, brother Paul S. Hurley, sisters Wendy N. Hurley (Harry) Kaneakua and Tamlyn N. Hurley (Steven) Kaui, 21 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. (with family visitation from 9 to 9:45 a.m.) Saturday, Feb. 17 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Lihue Ward, 4580 Ehiku St.

Leonard Vegas
Leonard Vegas, 78, of Lawai, passed away on Feb. 5, 2018, at Wilcox Medical Center.
He was born on May 17, 1939, in Waimea, and was retired as a carpentry foreman and also from the U.S. Army.
He was preceded in death by parents Leon F. (Julia B.) Vegas.
He is survived by his Maxine Vegas of Lawai, sons Leonard (Laura) Vegas, Mark Vegas and Leon (Dione) Vegas, all of Lawai, daughter Julivia (John) Applegate of Colorado, grandchildren Mason, Malu, Kanani, Maile, Breanna, Devin, Selena, Kaimana, Leann, John, Jeannette, Jennifer, Kaelyn, Landon and Rayson, great-grandchildren Xaiden and Wren, brother Johnny (Jane) Vegas of Honolulu, and numerous aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday, March 3, at the Garden Island Mortuary chapel in Lawai from 9 to 10:45 a.m., where services will be celebrated at 11 a.m.
Inurnment will occur at a later date.

Filipinas ‘Lipin’ Manuel Dumaoal
Filipinas “Lipin” Manuel Dumaoal of Kilauea passed away in Wilcox Medical Center on Feb. 5, 2018, at the age of 73. She was born in Barangay Santiago, Marcos, Ilocos Norte, Philippines, on Dec. 15, 1945, and worked at Silver Legacy Casino in Reno as a food server.
She was preceded in death by husband Arturo “Turing” Dumaoal, and parents Francisco and Serafina Manuel.
She is survived by children Danilo (Florenda) Mateo and Arturo (Grace) Manuel of the Philippines, Elizabeth (June Dumayas) Dumaoal of Kiluaea, Francis (Gladys Galiza) Dumaoal of Kilauea, grandchildren Kevin, Christoper, Lyka, Mica, Arianne, Christian Paul, Shiera Mae, Fhebby Kate, Shaina Isabel and John Aldine, siblings Romeo Manuel, Balbina Martin, Juliana Dona, Benito Manuel and Flora Quick, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Please join the family for a prayer service on Thursday, Feb. 22, at 4276 Aalona St. in Kilauea, beginning at 6 p.m.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, Feb. 23, 2018, at Kauai Veterans Center from 6 to 9 p.m., with services beginning at 7 p.m. Burial will be held in the Philippines.
