LIHUE — Kleve Zarbaugh said he’s going to miss the tower Monday during the Kauai Fire Department promotional pinning ceremony held before an overflow crowd of family and friends at the Moikeha Building.
With his promotion to ocean safety officer III, Zarbaugh will be spending time in the Ocean Safety Bureau office with supervisor Kalani Vierra and Tyrus Siale, who was promoted to ocean safety officer IV during the ceremony.
“We’re so proud of him,” said Samira Siale, Tyrus’s wife.
The two water safety promotions joined with 20 promotions within the Kauai Fire Department led by Gary Hudson and Solomon Kanoho being named to battalion chief, a supervisory office overseeing the eight Kauai fire stations and up to 40 people.
The promotees have already assumed duties of their respective promotions.

My congratulations to all those promoteds, especially Clyde Weddell.
Congratulations on the promotions. I would imagine promotions would mean an increase in compensation. The county and state continue to raise the costs of services, but for some reason there is no money to put a/c’s in ALL of our classrooms so our children can be educated and not sweat in 100 degree classrooms.
Where are the women?
Steve Martin, where are your manners? Fire Fighters on this island make almost nothing as they are there to risk their lives for people 24/7. Why don’t you attack the story about Carvalho?
