GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — Lamar Raynard went 20 of 36 for 324 yards with three touchdown passes and North Carolina A&T beat Delaware State 44-3 on Saturday.
N.C. A&T (6-0, 3-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) scored 16 points in a 35-second span late in the first quarter and was never threatened. Marquell Cartwright’s 2-yard touchdown plunge culminated a six-play, 73-yard drive. On the next possession, Jermaine Williams sacked Jack McDaniels for a safety, and then Khris Gardin returned the ensuing free kick 78 yards to the Delaware State 2. Cartwright carried in from there on the next play and the rout was on.
Raynard hooked up with Gardin on a 12-yard touchdown pass midway through the second quarter, then found Xavier Griffin on a 10-yard score with just over 3 minutes left in the half and the Aggies led 30-3 at intermission.
Cartwright finished with 96 yards on 19 carries while Elijah Bell had nine catches for 178 yards. The Aggies held the Hornets to minus-38 yards rushing.
