OMAO — A single-vehicle traffic crash closed a lane on Kaumualii Highway in the vicinity of Maha Road in Omao on Monday.
According to police, a Hyundai Accent was heading east on Kaumualii Highway about 4:45 p.m. when the operator lost control and crossed the westbound lane. The vehicle overturned into the tall grass along the shoulder of the highway.
The 43-year-old driver, a Kalaheo woman, was extricated from the vehicle by firefighters and medics. She was transported to Wilcox Medical Center with serious injuries.
There were no passengers.
The westbound lane of Kaumualii Highway was briefly closed after the crash.
The cause of the crash remains under police investigation.
