JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Rylan Wells accounted for five touchdowns as Jacksonville won its fourth straight, holding off Davidson 35-21 on Saturday.
Wells, who threw for 249 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 99 yards and three scores, scampered in from the 45 in the first quarter. He hit Michon Sobers on a 19-yard scoring strike and ran in from the 1 and from the 38 for two more scores to put the Dolphins ahead 28-0 at the break.
Davidson was stymied in the first half as the Dolphins (4-1, 2-0 Pioneer League) grabbed an interception and recovered a fumble. Davidson, which was forced to punt six times in the first two quarters, scored 21 unanswered points in the second half.
Keenan Simpson ran for 129 yards on 19 carries and Sobers hauled in four passes for 100 yards.
Tyler Phelps threw for 211 yards and one score for Davidson (2-3, 0-2).
